That one line description was pretty accurate.

Some interesting stuff here. I'm particularly fascinated by those highly colored...dragonflies? Flying sticks?

Yeah dragonflies (well i dunno wjat the one with 4 wings is, big bugger seemed nearly the size of my hand!) hadn't been for a walk over those woods for ages, they've recently put a new pond in and the dragonflies have moved in big numbers.

Most of the insects i hadn't seen before, the newt and deer are fairly rare to see so close up. Seems the lockdown and/or the warm weather seems to brought lots of animals out...

{{ cracking pics Malick Thumbs Up When I was a kid there used to be a huge stretch of marshland near the scheme I grew up in, we'd go get tadpoles and stuff there and it was full of dragonflies, beautiful colours. Then the US navy drained it all and built on top of it and now its a business park and all the dragonflies, tadpoles and newts are gone Mad }}

I've just noticed there's actually FOUR threads labelled Tales of Home[7], then one each of Tales of Home[6] etc.  Wouldn't every thread have it's own number?  This isn't making sense.

That is a bit bit odd... IIRC, once upon a time Eldy mentioned that she used to edit the thread titles when they automatically split up, so the currect thread didn't have numbers on them. I am lazy and haven't bothered. I have at least edited the titles. Then we'll have to see what happens at the next split. Shrugging

the Bigger, Badder and Just.....whatever threads need similar attention.  For some reason Just...whatever doesn't respond to searches, but there's two of version [6], just change the current one to 7.

As Amarië mentioned, the forum software does not change thread titles when they split. That was something I did manually whenever I noticed a new split, but after I gave up my mod powers I was unable to keep doing so. Thus, when long-running threads produced new iterations afterwards, the last number I'd added kept repeating. Since Amarië has now removed the number from the current iterations of several threads, future splits of those will simply repeat the restored, unnumbered thread title.

halfwise wrote:the Bigger, Badder and Just.....whatever threads need similar attention.  For some reason Just...whatever doesn't respond to searches, but there's two of version [6], just change the current one to 7.

There were actually four iterations of the "Just...whatever" thread that were numbered 6. I just used the Admin account (which Amarië gave me access to again last year, when I was helping with the domain name transition and rebranding) to renumber all of them accurately, except the current version (no. 9) on the front page of OT, which Amarië already removed the number from.

I take it the purpose of the tower fire is to provide light for all the drunken pilots to navigate home by at night.

It's tradition to ligth bonfires the 23rd. It's the result of the old classic make-heathen-rituals-christian-thing, so it's to celebrate st John... somehow... I dunno.  Umm.. *loooks it up* Right, so apparently John the baptist was born the 24th, so naturally we celebrate St John eve or Sankt Hans aften and... wait for his birth? Yeah, totally. (Hans is short for Johannes, who the English calls John). Also we often burn a witch doll on the fire, and make flower wreaths with a certain amount of flower types, which will makes you dream of the man you're gonna marry if you put it under your pillow that night.

This bonfire takes pride in being the tallest (worlds tallest in 2016 47,4 meter, Guinness world record), and is moved to the weekend cause it attracts a lot of people and is a big happening in Ålesund and around here.

There used to be competition between parts of the city to have the tallest. This is the only crew still building this tall. They put in a hellofa lot of time and effort and skill.

Interesting theory. But if you look at the video... it's nearly 11 pm here.

Edit: sunset at 23.37 and sunrise 03.38, according to the charts.

You mean the boats or the fire? The pallets and wood are in large part donated from businesses and would be burned anyway.
