All New Who

While I can understand that messing with the canon and lore is very irritating, the thing that strikes me most about the Chibbers episodes is the total lack of atmosphere. Its dead and flat. Maybe its the lack of haunting Bad Wolf type music, or its sparkling engaging characters, dunno, it lacks the special magic spark that RTD and Moffat had. Chibbers episodes go through the motions, it sort of looks like Doctor Who, but it doesn't feel like Doctor Who. Looks fair feels foul kinda thing. It doesn't make me feel anything apart from bored.

I was down in the dumps because the bloody show is still going on with that horrendous script, writing, acting, characters, stories most of all but, its still going on !

On a brighter note I watched a new really sweet comfy-crime TV show on Sunday night. Its called McDonald & Dodds. Its set in Bath. Its a bit Midsummer Murders/Agatha Raisin if you like that sort of thing. I find things like that comforting in times of turmoil. last time I felt the need for such stuff was when I watched My Family years ago. It was lightweight fluff but it helped the dumps.

... I think the Doctor truly having unlimited regenerations could ruin the show far more than the timeless child thing possibly could. Why? Because it simply gives the Doctor too much power.

First of all, it means the Doctor can just sacrifice him/herself anytime there is danger and save the day. This is a cheap, silly solution to problems that would make stories lame. If the Doctor refuses to give one of their infinite lives to save someone just so the current face stays the same, that's simply extreme vanity.

Secondly, it completely removes the weight of descisions like the 5th's sacrifice for Peri or the 10th's for Wilf. Not that unlimited regenerations now would retroactively ruin those since the Doctor still had limited cycle at the time. (Probably).

Thirdly, the show has demonstrated on multiple occasions that regeneration energy can be used to heal (see: The Angels Take Manhattan, Let's Kill Hitler). If the Doctor has unlimited regeneration energy, he/she could just heal everyone all the time.

The main reason people seem to want the unlimited regenerations is so that the show doesn't have to come up with an explanation for the Doctor's survival after reaching the end of a cycle...

Can't say I disagree with this.

Assuming Chibnall did indeed intend to imply the Doctor now has unlimited regenerations, I refer back to my earlier post-this also feels like he blew up a bit of the canon merely to get an easy fix and because he couldn't bothered to write an interesting story 'oh yeah, he/she is actually immortal by the way now lolz, you want jeopardy and impact every time the doctor regenerates? nah not going to happen'.

Ignoring my personal opinions...the more I think about the execution of the idea the more odd it seems, I'm honestly a tad surprised the BBC would give Chibnall enough creative freedom to rewrite the history of the show so much, and so soon.

Capaldi was offered the chance to stay for at least Series 11 and apparently took quite a while to make up his mind, I'm now wondering whether he was informed in any detail of Chibnall's plans. Also curious what RTD and Moffat think about this...

Another issue I have with pre-hartnell/infinite future Doctors is the reasons behind the decision-was it an attempt to add more mystery back to the show, or a cynical excuse to provide reasons for future stunt casting?

Every Doctor to date was chosen for very specific reasons-their talent and feeling right for the role rather than merely being a 'name', and cast with the intention of slowly developing their character over time (well with the exception of John Hurt/McGann's Doctors (and even they had big finish, novels and comics continuing there stories in depth to this day), now though that may as well be thrown out the window, and future doctors cast for a single episode merely because of their fame-why would they take the time to cast a unknown talent in the role and develop the character slowly, when they can now just cast a face/zany personality as a previous doctor every other episode to boost ratings.

For me this cheapens the drama of the show and lessens the impact of the current doctor, knowing there are now dozens more doctors we have never seen on screen having infinite adventures, it makes the 14 actors to play the role feel less important, and also dramatically undermines the arc Hartnell's Doctor has through the early seasons.

Also worried the BBC will have the stupid idea to run further with this and make a 'The Adventures Of the young timeless child doctor and chums' prequel or some shit.

...Actually nevermind, I'm not worried...I no longer care, Chibnall has shat all over the series anyway, can't get much worse can it?

Thats what Chibbers has done here. Since he took over he has systematically destroyed, removed or attacked every part of the show prior to his own time in charge of it. Its almost as if he as set out with the sole aim of undermining and ruining everything that has come before.

One could almost say this person has mental health problems & the BBC are letting him get on with it as part of his rehabilitation. Its like letting someone who harms themselves play with knives while saying, " its ok, let him get it out of his system" ! Id like to know who allowed this miserable rubbish to be on TV in the 1st place ? Aside from the fact its the worst dross ever, it does cost to put this out.

with any luck the next show-runner will just ignore Chibbers useless tinkering and just carry on as if it didn't happen.

Yeah... Or maybe strike while the crabbit is high. In a few years the fire might have burned out and noone will care. If newWho was made by fans of classic who, what newnewWho might we get from current 13/Yaz fans? Though they might be very creative to get anything useful from these seasons.

Chibbers has killed the mystery. We were never supposed to peak behind the curtain and discover the wizard of Oz was just some bloke. Spelling it all out has killed the mystery. I am so, so, glad that I didn't watch the last 3 episodes because I can just pretend it didn't happen. I remember when the Doctor was a mysterious and unknowable figure flitting through space and time and that's the way I am determined to remember HIM.

Agreed Figgs, to me he was a mysterious nomad, with no family, no ties or burdens, free & happy to whizz about. I knew no matter how weird, dangerous or confusing the problem was, he would have the answer. The creepy aliens & his uncanny confidence were on an equal par. I didn't need to know anymore than, can Dr Who save the day ? and he did of course. I only watched one episode with Jodie as the Dr & that was MORE than enough for me ! Chibbnob has wrecked & ruined Dr Who ( thank gawd he has nothing to do with LOTRs ! ) but only if I think about it, so I don't. I remember Hartnell, Troughton, Baker, Tennent, Smith & Capaldi & smile.... to Chibballs !!

In the first episode of NuWho 'Rose', RTD played it perfectly. Rose goes to a Who nerds house called Clive who explains all about the mystery of the Doctor. its perfect.

It got 4.73 after consolidated.

Just for comparison as Chibbers loves to bash Capald era, heres where Capaldi was on finales at the same point in his run, end of second series-

series 9-Hell Bent 6.17

And Jodie has the cushy steady Sunday night slot, not being shunted around a competitive Saturday night schedule and her figures include 4screen, whatever that is which they didnt count in Capaldi era.
So yeah, only good thing about this is hardly anyone bothered to watch it! }}
