On balance we got a much better version of LotR that anyone would have predicted, and I'm grateful for that. Doesn't stop me from bitching about the many things that could have been better.

{{ Im not sure itll save him this time, or if it does only as far as the May council elections. If the Tories get wiped there he is gone,Tories are merciless once the vote winning is gone from a PM and thats all Boris has survived on till now. And hard for any PM to survive when they have been reduced to a national laughing stock and butt of jokes. All the authority is gone. And you can bet behind the scenes the Truss's and the Sunaks are circling like vultures.}}

yep true that, he is finished, but the next person will be worse, an ideological kipper rather than an opportunist with none. Sunak would be worse than Osbourne, Truss worse than May, and Patel worse than all of them.

Saw the interview today on Sky news between Trevor Philips and Oliver Dowdon, and if anything convinced me the Tories are morally bankrupt it was that interview. from 12.50... bloody hell.

{{ Getting worse for Boris. Looking like he probably lied to parliament when he said he didn't know it was a 'party'. Cummings has leaked that Boris was warned about it, told it was bad idea to have a party and waved concerns aside and let it go on. And now thats been backed up by another person, and Cummings said there are more pictures of parties to come and there were more witnesses to him being told it was a party! Watch this space. If he did lie to Parliament he's finished this time. }}

{{ Great quote this-

"Boris sometimes seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility. I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else."

Made in 1982 by his teacher at Eton. And nothing has changed since. }}

{{ Prepare for the whitewash! I have had my suspicions since the corrupt MET got involved- smacked to me of the big institutions circling the wagons and protecting one another -on the surface looks bad, the police investigating if the PM broke his own rules and laws. But what it could mean in practise is a shield to hide behind.
The Gray report into the parties is due to be released today. But asked if it would be published in full Downing St replied that - the "intention" was to publish it in the form it is given to them.

And here's the clincher, they added they want reassurances from Gray's team that it won't include anything that would cut across the police inquiry into parties.

In short they want to publish her report minus the actual controversial bits, and whats left will be minor infractions and not touch the PM- as those bits will be redacted under the excuse a police investigation into them is ongoing.
So all those Tory MP's who have used the Gray report as an excuse to hide behind, saying they are waiting on it before deciding if Boris should go, will now say there is nothing here to warrant getting rid of him and they will now have to wait on the police report before deciding if the PM did anything wrong, a police report that will be months away. By which time they will hope the news cycle has moved on and public anger faded away. }}

{{ They do, and sadly they are probably right, at least when it comes to the English who keep voting in Tories for some reason I've never been able to fathom.
If this goes like it now looks like it is- the report will be published with all the controversial bits gone till the , months away, police report then Boris survives this, somehow- and the final test if he stays or goes will be the May council elections- if the Tories get humped then his own side will ditch him, as being a vote winner is why he is there. If however the English again vote Tory hes completely safe no matter what the police report eventually says. }}
