I have guesses, but just wonderin' if any are correct
I have located a furrier who -- might -- supply at least some stuff for Game of Thrones. I think the pelts (possibly) include wolverine and grey fox... the show-folk say they use real furs for the main actors, as the fake ones can be spotted on today's high definition televisions.
DeClifford Furs notes: We have also helped to supply and advise the film industry on many occasions. Productions such as Robin Hood (2010) The X-Men and Game of Thrones have all sought our expertise when needing ethically sourced furs.
While "ethically sourced furs" means more than just vintage, according to an online article at least (Glamour), it appears vintage is meant for the show:
http://www.glamour.com/story/the-badass-thing-game-of-thrones-daenerys-targaryen-wears-under-every-single-dress
Other fascinating wardrobe secrets? The fur used is faux when possible and sourced from vintage French markets if not.
DeClifford actually has a set up on their site (along with a picture of Jon Snow) to ask them questions! Probably not questions like mine however. Also they are in the United Kingdom, not France.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Are ethically sourced furs strictly from furry animals that died of natural causes or is it the method of slaughter that makes it "ethical"?

Well, at least it'll give George more time to write

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
My highly scientific forecast (backed up by halfy's math! ) does not project TWOW being published until 2018 so I'm afraid George is still out of luck. Though thinking about it now, it would be funny to me if TWOW came out just after the final season of the show, since ADWD came out just after the first.

I always said I'd prefer to read the books before watching GOT, I can happily wait to do so, but the real problem might be avoiding spoilers...

I'll say next week then, just so we've covered both extremes

I'm not sure about spoilers. The show and the books are diverging so much at this point, at all.

Even when I was regularly watching the show I was unable to avoid spoilers for even a single day if I watched an episode late for some reason. 90% of the time anything major got spoiled by headlines on entertainment blogs that were then shared/promoted on Facebook. Though at this point, even when the show does something that might happen in a future book, the context is likely different enough that the book will still hold plenty of surprises and unforeseen decisions.

I'm not even trying to be extreme, I just don't think there's been anything to suggest that Martin is writing faster than he did with AFFC and ADWD (or that he'll start to do so in the future), but to each his own.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
You mean the fact that this one's taken almost the same amount of time as the writing-block/mereneese knot one?

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Does Martin have a son who he could appoint as literary executor to do the finishing touches if he dies before he's finished?

Tru dat, I'm not worried about spoilers, but I don't think I'll watch the last season. The ending will be a huge spoiler, nomatter how messed up the story is up to that point.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Well, to my mind these stories are kind of all the same. They are all base on an epic romantic example that has passed almost into myth.
LotRs, WoT, HP etc
It would be interesting though to see if George diverges from the norm.

That, plus the fact that the nature of the story means that there are inevitably gonna be more Meereenese knots as he tries to tie everything back together for the conclusion.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I'm not so sure. Things should go quicker when he drags all the plotlines that hve seperated since SoS back together. Things should go quicker again towards the end, I would tend to think.
He's still to do that though.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
We've talked before about how hard endings are do (and ASOIAF is vastly more complex than ATLA). They don't go quicker at all, especially not for a perfectionist like Martin.
EDIT: remember that the problem of the Meereenese knot was how to bring a bunch of characters together into one place. The last two (or three) books are gonna be a non-stop stream of moments like that, and Martin doesn't have the benefit of an outline to help him.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Yeah, but bringing together, and the situation when you have brought htem together are still different, to my mind at least.
But it's a pretty pointless discussion, admittedly. Time wil tell.

Has anyone seen or heard of Fair Game? It's an independent documentary about the media coverage of GoT.
