Re: Just...................whatever [7]
I remember hearing about how humanity creates more "content" in the form of writing, pictures, etc. every day than all of the known "creative content" of humanity up until such-and-such a date. I thought of this originally in the context of the internet, is that what that statistic is concerned with? I'm not sure.
Regardless, this got me thinking about how much information humanity destroys every day: old schoolwork, journals, manuscripts, all tossed in the recycle; digital photographs clicked out of existence; computer hard-drives corroding away in landfills; websites shutting down and wiping their servers (the Myspace forums disappearing was a pretty big loss, personally speaking, there were a TON of my 14-17 year old thoughts on there).
The amount of recorded human experience that is being thrown away these days must also be greater than ever before. How many Libraries of Alexandria's worth get tossed every day I wonder?
Stuff gets made, stuff gets thrown away, c'est la vie.

Re: Just...................whatever [7]
One wonders if what remains from this process is higher quality than before. I tend to think it is - we're taught to revere things like The Iliad, but it's nearly unreadable by modern standards. Sure, it's constrained by the poetic form needed for memorization, but I'd take any of a bucket full of books over reading the Iliad for pleasure. We read these things mainly out of cultural curiosity, a whole different sort of pleasure.

Re: Just...................whatever [7]
I hope that us humans are realising the power of recycling & putting all that junk & crap to good use a 2nd time round. We are being informed of the need to recycle & people are becoming aware of the sustainability & longevity of resources etc. As science is progressing we are finding out that 'magic' inventions, like plastic & nylon, are not as wonderful as we 1st thought. In fact they cause a lot of trouble & some products cant be recycled yet as we don't have the technology....yet

Noticed a couple of grey hairs in my beard the other day
I do already own a very nice pair of slippers, I enjoy moaning about public transport and find young children very annoying, I guess I'm a bit of an old fart at heart.

That wall climbing technique looks useful, I'll have to study up on it.
The look on the face of the trampoline girl when she was done was sort of magical.
