I have to say July is a bad time to find cheap rooms in NYC.  I see places that I got for my friends a month ago for $95/night are going for $175/night in July.  If worse comes to worse, there's always youth hostels, or you can crash on my sofa bed in the living room.  Or there's a place a few blocks from me that's $100/night or $50/2 hours.  (Should be interesting.)

I appreciate the offer, halfy. I was poking around Airbnb earlier (though dear god the site runs like shit) and there are some pretty good prices in Midtown, but I dunno if any of the attractively-priced ones will pan out for me. First time trying this. Razz

I've been to bars for shows and stuff before, though I actually don't think I've been since turning 21 last year.

Some places have an age limit, others will let a minor in if accompanied by an adult but by law cannot seat a minor at the bar. It's nice to not have to worry about any of that.

Nabbed a private room (within an apartment) in Midtown half a mile from the college, for two nights, for $175. Shocked That's including all the fees and shit. Considering that there were a lot of places even on Airbnb going for $175 per night I'm pretty pleased with it.

Train fares are way more than I expected though so I'm looking more at buses now.

that's an amazing price!

I suggest taking Megabus (though someone will have to drop you at Whitemarsh mall) and paying the extra $7 to reserve a seat up front on the top level if travelling at daytime.  Your own bus-sized windshield 8 feet above ground: it's like watching the trip on Imax.

Thanks for the suggestion, halfy. White Marsh would actually be a better place to leave from for me than anywhere inside the Beltway. I will be traveling at day time so I will definitely keep the IMAX window suggestion in mind. Nod

The bus stop is somewhere out in that huge parking lot. I have to assume Megabus provides decent directions. But don't count on the wifi working.
