Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Sounds like Ringo would want a professional with him on the first go.

{{No, no! Most pubs wont serve it, what your looking for are offlisenses and corner shops that sell alcohol. Youll find shaped bottles of it, you want the tall bottle (looks like the buckie bottles youve seen on here), and you dont drink it in pubs, at your hotel, or somewhere else if you dont want to find in the morning you have a very large hotel cleaning bill!
Now the trick is to down as much of as you can, in as short an amount of time as you can manage, without killing yourself!
Good luck! }}
I think halfy is right, this seems like one for the buddy system. Still, I must try it. I'm afraid I'm leaving on Friday, though

It's conceivable you'd be going to Vermont, but we see that as a local destination, not an international destination.

I am on state business so cannot confirm or deny.
It may have happened that the Canadian maple leaves were all yellow and so the nearest, 5 pointed red one was found. But that would be speculation of course.

I was wondering and you might know - any good places to go mid-week if you want to listen to live folk music? I'm thinking The Corries type music.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
{{{ I'll see what I can find.
In terms of other events if your here on the 5th thats Bonfire Night- there will be a big bonfire and fireworks on Glasgow Geen that night. There's the Glasgow Whisky Festival on the 9th at Hampden Park and on the same day there a Festival of Burleseque
Also on the 9th is the Festival of the Dead- a mix of circus, cabaret and dance music. Thats at the o2 so you'd need to prebook tickets for that one.
And Kelvingrove Museum is always worth a visit.
Right folk music- theres Talisk playing King Tut's What-Wah Hut on the 9th thats all the official stuff I can find - but what I will do is get a few suggestions of small places to try where there is often music on. Leave it with me.

Maybe I'll take before and after pics (if the latter is even possible) - and thanks for the tips in your other post! The events on the 9th I won't be able to make, but that bonfire thing sounded fun

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
On my way back to Norway, got well and properly drunk, broke my phone which I had just recently bought, got to chat with Taylor Goldsmith, but I could not find buckie anywhere! So I guess I’ll have to come back (which was always the plan anyway). They had whisky, wine, beer - but no buckie. I return with no sense of fulfillment

Wait, may be the result of a cultural mistranslation.
Am I right to infer that one does not pick up Buckie in a pub, but in a store?
