Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Figgy.... question!
Have a friend who is wanting to go somewhere in Italy with her mum. She was going to go to Pisa and I said that was a waste of time. They have been to Florence and Venice.
Requirements are: won't travel outside of town/city so everything should be there. Long weekend.
Their other idea was Verona.
Feedback please!

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
ok I will have a think. do they like art or culture or other stuff? you are right Pisa is boring, Verona is ok but nothing spectacular. Do they like seaside? or lakes? because if they like the sea I suggest somewhere in Liguria, maybe Porto Venere in which case they can go on little ferry boats to the Cinque Terre which is lovely, its all there, sea, culture and great food. If they like lakes I suggest Lake Garda, there again you have lakeside ferry trips, beautiful scenery, great food, etc, a good choice would be Bardolino, Gardone or Malcesine. Lake Garda is nearest to Verona airport, it would be a very relaxing trip. I would also highly recommend Merano which is in the Tyrol.(I go there whenever I can its so wonderful) Its still Italy but its German speaking and it has a more Austrian feel, surrounded by mountains, but it has a Spa where you can have hot baths, and the town is lovely, Merano is great if you want to chill. If you want the full on chaos Italian thing they could go to Rome, its hectic, noisy and busy as you know, but its got history and art coming out its doobies, Rome is not relaxing though.
If they are going somewhere with their mum I suggest the more relaxing options where you can just potter about rather than larger towns and cities where its full of tourists.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
I think I just saw a movie set there actually. One with Vanessa Redgrave. It wasn't very good, but the lake looked nice in it.

Who thread problems. Unfortunately its nothing to do with me this time.
Basically there's been a falling out over Moffat, but Moffat isn't worth falling out over. no way!
I think its been building up. If someone could allow people to voice their criticisms of forementioned idiot/Moffat, without getting quite so defensive, and if he could apologize for being defensive.?
and if someone else could maybe apologize for inadvertently hurting the feelings of that someone else? (who still probably doesn't understand why he was called out in the first place )
Then we might be able to get over this mess.
If it had been Figg vs Petty nobody would have batted an eyelid because its what we do. Sarcasm is expected on both sides but its just girlie handbags.
What is serious is the fact its Eldo and Petty and feelings have run deeper, and more exasperated, and manly pride and sensibilities and stuff women don't understand has got involved. and I really hope we can get through this.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
A few points:
1. I have apologized to Petty already.
2. Too many people were involved to call it simply "Eldo vs Petty".
3. Both Figg and Petty have left the forum in a huff because of their fights before so this is neither new nor some exclusively male thing.

Ah... it is a huff departure. Fair enough... I will stay out of it then.

1. didn't know that. sorry.
2. fair enough, but between you two its more unsettling and upsetting.
3. very true. huffs are my speciality and I take them very seriously for about 5 minutes.
what I meant was that male friendships also include aspects that women don't really do, ie manly pride stuff which sometimes runs deeper and painful than you would think. This is where punching comes in handy, it clears the air, but verbal arguments can leave all sorts of invisible wounds. Women can have a good old bitchfest with each other but women talk to each other more about their feelings more so it gets sorted out sooner. just generalising obviously.

I think that's fair. Arguments settled by fistfights are usually over unless the words keep flowing.

Ooo....sends shivers down my spine when you take charge like that, Orwell. It's my understanding that we'll be using, um, restraint?
