Congrats on the 2500!
Thanks!
And, oddly enough he does look vaguely like me...though apparently with more hair
I'll admit I was a tad dissapointed to find out Petty wasn't an enormous bagpipe wielding scary looking bearded redhead

Yeah, that photoshopped pic from 13 years ago is extremely representative for how I look today.

But elves don't change much, if at all in 13 years. To me you shall always be that serene little elf with the deep look in her eyes.

I was most disappointed that Petty was wearing pants. Winter shouldn't be an excuse to forego the noble kilt, should it?
I don't know what you mean, your ears are still as lovely and pointy as ever.
EDIT:
She hasn't lost that either.

Well I can take care of one anyway.Mrs Figg wrote:we need one of you Lance, and Bungo and Forest and Malick and Blue, Radhagast. loads of people.
That's me, and my dad, and the collie overlooking the Mississippi last fall.
I tried to find a beardless shot of myself, but I'm away from home and couldn't find one anywhere that didn't include other people! So here's me at my sister's wedding last August too. On the right, obviously! On the left is my brother and in the middle is our mom.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Looking good, Forest. Do you still have the beard? I shaved what I had off a few weeks ago 'cause it's still really patchy. I'm hoping that in a couple years I'll be able to grow a real beard.
Re: Holidays and absences [3]
I did shave it, yeah. I didn't want to scare anyone off in my new D&D group with my manliness!
It's been a couple weeks though; maybe I'll let it go for a few months. Nothing like my brother's mountain-man look though.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
It's an overlook on the top of the bluffs on the Iowa side. You can't see it in the picture but across from there the Wisconsin river meets up with the larger Mississippi. The area has several well-preserved clusters of Indian Burial Mounds on the bluff-tops. The biggest is like 50 feet across and they're mostly in the shapes of bears. I mean, a few of the mounds were dug open back at the turn of the century, but they're well preserved compared to most of the indian mounds in the region that have probably been plowed under in the fields.
Apparently it was here that French trappers first came across the Mississippi in this part of the world, as they came down the Wisconsin river in boats/canoes/whatever they used. Here I found a picture online. It's called Pike's Peak. The Mississippi is flowing left-to-right, and you can just make out the Wisconsin river in the right background.
I take much offense Lancebloke!

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
I think you look great with the beard, Forest.
I've never tried one; sort of torn between the messiness of food and the pleasure of not having to shave. Food wins out: you do that at least 3 times a day.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
I had quite a holiday beard when I was away but had to remove when I came home. In my case it makes me look quite a bit older!
Forest - not been to that part of the world yet. Looks nice!!

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Forest that place looks very evocative. there's something magical about it. it looks somewhere beautiful you could explore, but if its a native American holy place maybe its better not to. I don't know much about these things as regards correct etiquette, anyway it looks great from a distance. but sometimes places always seen from a distance are more mysterious in your imagination.

Re: Holidays and absences [3]
Bah! Not in this case! It's well worth the time to take a canoe through the backwaters of the Mississippi, especially when the time of season is right! There's lots of wildlife, and neat places to stop off for beach picnics. The mounds are a little less impressive in person, but the age and culture of the place is pretty neat. It reminds me a bit of those chalk-outlines over there in England.
The Indian mounds are called Effigy Mounds.. I think Park?
Anyway, here the people who take care of it put chalky gravel or powder or something around the base of the mounds and took a photo by plane. Obviously trees grew up through the mounds once the Indians in the area no longer tended to them (or were driven away, I don't know the history), but I think the park keeps saplings from sprouting up now.
There's a line of "marching" bears too. And note the bird in the bottom right:
The effigy mounds were mostly built in what they call the "Late Woodland period" from 350-1300 A.D. while the round or conical mounds were generally older, constructed as long ago as 700 B.C.
