Re: Star Wars [2]
yes but he made it exactly the style that would have worked in a star wars movie (or at least be acceptable) Davidjones
Maybe doesn't explain how he managed to make almost every single plot element a plot hole though!
In either film there is not a jot of the story makes the slightest bit of sense and are so full of contrived convenience its unbearable -my fave sequence there being Kirk irrationally and crazily deciding to fire Spock at a planet to get rid of him, the planet not only turns out to be habitable, but happens to have a big monster on it right next to where Spcok lands, a monster which just happens to chase Spock to the one base on the entire planet, which happens to be Federation and happens to have Scotty on it, as well as it just happens to be the same place the bad guy decided to dump original older Spock where he can handy meet his younger self and give him the necessary exposition, and whilst they are there- on a planet of ice and snow storms, they get to witness the destruction of Vulcan- the reason for leaving him there- because luckily it just happens to be a lovely day with a perfectly clear sky that day. And even more luckily for all concerned Scotty happens to have designed a device which is so poorly thought it as a means to escape the planet it undermines the entire premise of ST by making starships instantly redundant.
Its so badly written I am never sure when I watch that sequence whether to cry at the appalling standard of writing, or laugh non stop at just how bad it happens to be.

Re: Star Wars [2]
I'm hoping that it will turn out most of the writing problems in the Star Trek reboot(s) were the fault of Lindelof, Orci, and Kurtzman and that their non-presence on Star Wars will mean that it's mostly just Abrams' good qualities that carry over. Dunno if that'll turn out to be true but I'm holding on to that hope.
Re: Star Wars [2]
New EW covers (re) confirm that...

Cover date of November 20-27
- Spoiler:
- - There's gonna be a Death Star III
- Princess Leia is now going by an alias, apparently
- Luke Skywalker is missing

Re: Star Wars [2]
So I'm being bad and starting to read spoilers that I'm sure are old news for a lot of people, but it turns out that:
- Spoiler:
- technically it's not a Death Star III but rather "[a]n ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order and armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems."

I remember that, but I had read even fewer spoilers when I watched the video and so I didn't realize the planet thing had been confirmed yet and thought it might just have been speculation on their part.

The deepest hints seen yet. I admit, I rather like the approach being hinted at.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Interesting but not saying much in the end really.
I've long thought the outcome for Luke had to be bad- he was warned loads of times not to do exactly what he then went and did.
But for me the true Force hero and the greatest user of the force in the films is rather obviously R2. Seriously watch the original 3 films back with that in mind and you will see how R2 is at the heart of everything and manipulates situations for the outcome he wants.

I refuse to accept that sentence exists. Or Jar-Jar for that matter.

Re: Star Wars [2]
One thing I could not get over yesterday was all the Star Wars crap at each store. It was ridiculous and made me feel pretty cynical about the whole ordeal. It just started to turn me off to the idea of these new movies altogether.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Merchandise has always been an integral part of Star Wars. It wouldn't feel right if we didn't have ungodly amounts of tie-ins for the new movies.
Re: Star Wars [2]
The laziest, cheapest tie-in I saw yesterday was a plush Darth Vader holding a MN Vikings fleece throw.
