Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
We are gathered here today in loving memory of Petty Tyrant. His passing, though devastatingly sad, came as no surprise after the explosion of his crabbit meter could be heard all the way from Scotshobbiton to each of the four corners of Middle Earth. He will always have a special place in all our hearts, and we will remember all the good times we spent with him, the times he himself could never remember anything from on account of him being constantly drunk on his favourite beverage, the buckie. Farewell, Petty, we hope that you are now in a better place - a place with streams of whisky, buckets of buckie and page 3 girls who know their place.

Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
Reports of my death are slightly exaggerated, though only slightly. I was just having a lie down in the rubble after the last explosion. And a small drink to settle my nerves. Well a small barrel of drink. Ok not that small. But rest assured when I remember how the legs bits work I'll be back up and then I'm going to deal with each and everyone of you and then PJ!!!!!! Or I might just lie here a little longer.

Glad I'm lying down in this rubble with a soothing buckie- sounds suspiciously like a 'domestic' going on out there!

Well, this might make you feel better (or be somehow offensive) but I REALLY hope I don't have to see a bunch of older people (two of which are supposed to be young) fighting. I saw Geoffrey Rush fighting in the 4th pirates movie with a peg leg, and I just thought it looked so wrong. The reason I felt this way was because he was able to do more 8 years ago than he is now. Now, I feel that they're getting... well... less capable of HUGE EPIC fight sequences.
Aha! So THAT's why Orlando's back!!!

Well I'm pretty sure Christopher Lee is past his fighting days. Sadly the rest of them could probaly do some of it, stunt men some more and cgi the reminainder (as they did for Legolas a few times in LotR in what are not only poor scenes but the poorest cgi in the trilogy-so I hope they avoid this time).

I'm not sure if the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is a fair comparison. As much as I love POTC (all of them), the most recent movie suffered from a smaller budget relative to its predecessors and in fact relative to many other blockbusters, probably due to the lukewarm critical and audience reception of the third film, despite its massive financial success. That's why there were so many scenes on land and in fact not a single cannonball fired in the entire two-hour-plus movie. I suspect that The Hobbit will be able to do more with a larger budget, though come to think of it, I'm not sure what The Hobbit has been budgeted at.
Then again, maybe it's more subjective, because I loved Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa in the fourth movie, even though his face looked much droopier.

I'd like that too, but I'm honestly not sure why else they would bring back Orlando Bloom.
Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
Don't get me wrong! I LOVE Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa! And making another POTC movie was a mistake.
I'm definitely sure that the effects in the HObbit will be at Avatar standards, meaning it will change the movie making industry. Knowing PJ, and weta, they have something big up their sleeves. I'm not really worried about CGI people fighting. There have been huge leaps in CGI since the trilogy. And only now am I starting to see where the special effects are in the films (it stands out more because the new CGI is much better quality) so I'm excited for the spectacle part of the films! If not anything else...
And by the way, PJ is making a movie about me!!!! That's right! her Majesty the Queen is now on the Big Screen!
The movie is called TINtin!
Perhaps you have heard of it???

Agreed with everything there- at the time the CGI was amazing for LOTR- I remember Sir Ian going on about it and how amazing it looked on the big screen. The same will apply here!
Oh, and I hope that snowy will still play a part in your new film? I didn't like to ask...but this is PJ we're talking about...

Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
I thought the cgi Legolas looked rubbish at the time contemporary with the effects of the time, it looks even worse now but it always looked ropey. Weta are however much richer now and more expercienced which might help the cgi but not stop me hating even the idea that PJ might want to use it to have people do preopsterous acts (as he did in LotR)

Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
Only just caught up with this thread!
I have to ask whats wrong with this? It gave me a good laugh just to read... I might actually pay to see the reality too
Oh, and I don't care if it don't fit.... The necromancer is a big scary, shadowy figure who keeps people in rotting dungeons and does unspeakable things to their minds, drving them mad.... of course he has a form !!!!!!!!(who says it has to be logical, this is a childs remeberance of a childs book!)
Pettytyrant101 wrote:If he has a physical Sauron they can have him fighting. I just can't see how that will work. Gandalf fighting Saruman was embarrasing enough. Are we going to see Galadriel chucking fire balls about? Radagsat turning into weird beats to fight him? Whats Elrond going to do Matrix him? No, no, no, and NO again!!!!! Buckie! By Illuvatar I need more buckie!!!

Re: Sauron in the Hobbit
"a big scary, shadowy figure"
That works brilliantly when thats all he is, a shadow on the edge of the story- soon as you send a bunch of wizards round knocking on his front door you've cocked it up.

No idea. Tolkien doesn't say. You only really know that it happened in retrospect and from about two lines in the Tale of Years. Two lines PJ is going to fill out into a whole film!

I vote for big scary terrible queen Galadriel from the mirror scene and billowing robed Gandalf and co shouting at scary forest tower, telling creepy shadow 'go away!' and throwing sticks
