Ozhobbitstan must be two weeks behind.
Latest X-files episode: hated the stereotypical characterization of muslim communities in America. "Shroom" sequence was very cute. Rest was pretty stupid.

yep it was about as subtle as a brick in the face. But Mulder doing the Texan line dancing made up for it.

I still have no idea what the current X Files is trying to be, but am warming to the parody style of it's delivery.

Re: Television programmes [2]
The old X-files had plenty of self parody. Those were the best episodes. But it had to get good at the thematic stuff before the parodies became an option.

Re: Television programmes [2]
You notice things in clips that may be missed in full episodes. After Cher asks the Great Mutato to dance, Mulder gets up, and without looking at her - pauses and extends a hand backwards to Scully - who after a few seconds hesitation smiles gently and accepts.
It's beautiful character moment; I wonder if it was improvised or if it was discussed beforehand. I'd like to think it just flowed from the characters.

It's quite nice to see the effect of the years of experience since the original X Files. Now if they can do it with X Files, they can do it with Firefly.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I have seen maybe 20 or so episodes of the 'Old' X-Files though none in a good five or six years or more, so I can hardly claim to be a hardcore fan or expert, but I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes of the New Series, the still great chemistry between Mulder and Scully making up for a slighty slow burning storyline.
Hopefully it will get renewed for another series and beyond

Unfortunately, I fear it's been too long since Firefly's (very short) original run for a revival to be remotely possible, The X-Files though a cult show was a populist hit, Firefly though arguably more mainstream was not a commercial success

Re: Television programmes [2]
I think they could probably do a revamp, although Serenity is a bit of an issue. Bring back the characters as older you know, and probably with some new ones. (And bring back Wash!)
Although, I keep remembering what Nathan Fillion uses to say about it never having a chance to be bad, have an off season and so on.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I watched "The Night Manager" on BBC1 last night & I thought it was very good, I was hooked straight away Tom*ooh yeah* Hiddleston plays a hotel night manager & you first see him in Egypt. It gets interesting very quickly & it ran along at a good speed I will certainly watch it next week. Often IL watch a 1st episode & feel sorta meh, & only watch the 2nd just to see if it gets better but with this one It was good from the off I love spy stories & this one is by John Le Carre.

Actually, that scene cuts a little close to home.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I guess I never got around to posting my thoughts on X-files. Why was Scully so convinced right at the outset? No motivation, not believable.
But worse: the X-files was never about saving the earth from the apocalypse. That kinda ruins it.

Re: Television programmes [2]
I'm pretty sure it was written by Chris Carter. He's got some great episodes under his belt, but this was one of the worst of all time.

I actually loved it, but they left it on a cliff hanger and then the series ends.

Re: Television programmes [2]
Funny that you loved it. Felt like drivel to me. Even the fight sequence seemed like they sped it up too much so it didn't look real.
