Boris Johnson: "We have an English parliament, it's call Westminster".
Wait, was I just saying the other day?
Wait, was I just saying the other day?
Eldorion wrote:I do feel that with the direction devolution is going, there should be an English Parliament. Not having one implies that the Westminster parliament is (and always ways) there for England's sake, which is contrary to the whole idea of equal union.
Re: 2015 General Election
They just hit 50- remarkable result.

Re: 2015 General Election
Clegg holds onto his seat- not sure he has held onto his party however. Wonder if he will resign in his speech.

Re: 2015 General Election
Yeah, there's no way Clegg can continue. Miliband's probably going to step down to, and Farage said he will if he loses in South Thanet.
Conservatives hold onto Dumfriesshire so with 53 out of 59 Scottish seats in the books, we have one each for Labour, the Lib Dems, and the Conservatives, and all the rest going to the SNP. This sort of regional dominance occurred in Southern Ireland before its independence and at times in Northern Ireland before the civil rights movement, but I don't think it's ever occurred in Britain before.

I also think it's remarkable that the shadow Foreign Secretary lost to a 20 year old, who is now the youngest MP in 350 years.

Re: 2015 General Election
Yeah that just demonstrates the extent of the Labour collapse.
SNP now on 53 seats.

Re: 2015 General Election
You're in Argyll and Bute right, Petty? Congrats on contributing to the SNP victory there.
Cameron rubbing the pollsters noses in it a little bit. They seriously need to reassess their methodology. You can't just blame the "shy Tory" phenomenon, given how the SNP was underestimated by most (and the Lib Dems being overestimated, even though everyone thought they would lose ground).

Re: 2015 General Election
Cameron: "one nation", but we're going to deliver on promises of greater devolution.
Conservatives are probably going to have a majority in their own right.

Yeah, good to know my vote counted to something- makes a change!
Interesting comments from Cameron. Be interesting to see what he actually comes up with.

Re: 2015 General Election
Those results are not surprising, not looking forward to five more years of the Tories
Hopefully SNP slaughtering Labour might give them a kick up the arse.

Re: 2015 General Election
So who will the Tories make a coalition with? Even Labor won't join with SNP, will the Tories? Or, wonder of wonders, will the Tories join with Labor?

Re: 2015 General Election
so another Tory/Li Dem coalition then.
crushing defeat of Labour and Lib Dems. Clegg has paid dearly for tuition fees, and Wallace paid dearly for ..well.. everything really. Milliband just wasn't statesmanlike material, he did too little too late, and what he did do was damaging. They will both be getting their coats.

I didn't think there were enough Lib Dems left for a coalition.

Re: 2015 General Election
Wow that was some election night- the list of big name casualties is huge- Miliband, Clegg, Farage, Murphy, Hughes, Danny Alexander, Doulgas Alexander, Vince Cable, Ed Balls, George Galloway, David Laws, Charles Kennedy.
Its hard keeping track of everyone who has gone.
Remarkably Jim Murphy says he will stay on as leader of Scottish Labour - not sure how that will work given hes technically unemployed now and has no job or seat and he and his party couldn't have been more roundly rejected in Scotland.
Well the next move is Cameron's- after he stoked up the SNP as a threat he now has to find a way to deal with them. Because they are coming to Westminster and in numbers and with a overwhelming unprecedented mandate from the Scottish people.

Re: 2015 General Election
Well... guess we now see how everything moves forward. Cameron said in his speech about the priority for reforms in Scotland and Wales. He is saying the right things there.
Re: 2015 General Election
Good to see you back Lance
Yeah the ball is definitely in Cameron's court now- we shall have to see what he does with it.
Good to see also that of the 56 new SNP's MP's 20 of them are women.
