Re: The 2014 Forum Awards Nominations
Driving is better than flying, IMO because I like controlling the speed I'm going and being able to get out with out falling to my death! Planes are too claustrophobic! I've driven 7.5 hours byyself and I love it!!

I've done 7 hour stretches by myself and as long as there aren't any crazy people on the road it can be very fun.

Plus now I'm getting much better mileage, 32 mpg average with a 4 cyl opposed to about 16 mpg I had with my crossover with a v6 engine. I do miss my Ford Escape, though.

My car is 16 years old and completely falling apart but still goes 80miles per hour like a champ! From school to home it's about 6 hrs 45 mins but I got back in 6 hrs 15 mins once!! Love to drive fast

Re: The 2014 Forum Awards Nominations
the longest I drove was from the east of England to the west of Ireland. that was a pretty cool journey as far as landscapes go. I ended up in Sligo which is a beautiful place, wild beaches, I went there feeling unhealthy, but because its a strange place, I went home slimmer and the most healthy I have ever been. Its the air, its odd air, kind of thick and full of nutrients.

Re: The 2014 Forum Awards Nominations
When I worked in the canneries in Alaska it was 1200 miles from the ferry dock in Prince Rupert, Canada to my home in Washington, and I used to be able to drive that in just under 24 hours.
The longest commute of my life! I couldn't do that anymore.

1200 miles? that's like driving to New Zealand and back. I don't think the whole of the UK has 1200 miles in it. just looked its got 874 from end to end, so you drove from the top of Scotland to half way down France, that's one crazee commute.

its got 874 from end to end- Figg
Yeah but there are no roads in straight lines- it might be 874 miles long but its about 2000 miles of winding road to drive it!

I wondered why we never thought to have a Motoring Thread... because we do have one after all --- you just need to know where to look.

What would keep me driving (besides caffeine) was knowing that the line to get on the Alaska State Ferry would be 100 cars more than could possibly fit on the boat when it finally left Prince Rupert, and the vehicles that didn't make it would have to wait in line another 2 days for the next ferry.
So every time I'd think, "I need a nap" I'd remember that it would mean another 10 cars ahead of me in the queue when I got there, and I'd press on.
It's a shame really. It's a spectacularly beautiful drive across British Columbia up the Frazier River Canyon and out to the Coast, but I always drove it like it was a race.

Re: The 2014 Forum Awards Nominations
We did the long way from San Francisco to San Diego, then back up to Vegas last year. Longest drive was about 8 hours.
Also... I just just 12000km or so on my last trip. Although I wasn't driving, the longest trip was 2 days!

I understand Dave, its amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it, Tho it does sound something like the "Top Gear" trio would do & they do it for the hell of it ( plus, smash a few cars on the way, the old billboard, half a house, that sort of thing )

Re: The 2014 Forum Awards Nominations
Well.. it's kind of hard to explain.. bouncing and the awards kind of became sort of a thing while you were away. You can try reading the next couple of pages from here.
