I get you, Ringo. I don't think I've ventured to the city centre here on the 17th since I was russ. That's far too busy and noisy. And I'm not sure how I feel about celebrating nationalism and national pride on the whole of it. I do think it is nice to see people in a good mood though.

It's quite natural to feel that way. You're just in that awkward phase where you are not a child and you don't have children and you are not in a marching band which plays in three parades and one... uh... fest-public-celebration-thingy during the day.

Ringo. add everything of what you said to heavy bunad and always being cold as fuck (it snowed today) and you have my experience. the only thing worth it is the champagne for breakfast (and if you're among friends) getting drunk. today i sat and listen to all my gramps discussing medical stuff... (like old people tend to do)

the fuck's a 'bunad'? It sounds like something painful that old people get in their joints.

The website is no help: why would you be cramming well dressed young people into old people's joint problems? That's just perverse.

The bunad would be the "well dressed" part of those particular young people.

I was talking to someone earlier and asked if I was particularly boring for sitting with school on the 17th of May, but she said she would probably have been too if she hadn't been working. I guess it takes all sorts.

Either way, I won't be competing.

Well, if your bunad is giving you agony, shouldn't you go to a doctor?  That's what the old people with bunads do, if I understand right.

('family ties' - are you genetically predisposed to bunads?  Sorry to hear that.)

Yes, it would be problematic if a bunad wasn't still in norwegian what those people are wearing and not a debilitating medical condition.

You are however genetically predisposed to one. At least in so far you should get one from somewhere you have family ties to. (ie my three examples above.)

Are young people wearing bunads these days? I'm so out of the loop. If so I'd call some of those definitely problematic. Better than baggy pants at least.

The only people who dress up in old-timey clothes on Independence Day over here are usually trying to make a political point. Having it be an all-encompassing thing seems much cooler.
