One, Odelstinget, constituting 1/4 of the MoPs, would propose legislation, although that was mostly formally passing on proposed legislation by the executive branch, another, lagtinget, constituting 3/4 of the MoPs, would vote on it. But if the two chambers disagreed it would be decided by a vote in plenum of both chambers. Since the late 1800s, along with the establishment of negative parlamentarism, the two chambers have both been divided on the lines of the general election results, and disagreements between the two chambers have been practically unheard of.

We don't have the system any more, it was repealed in 2007. Razz

To be honest, I've never liked this day. It's tedious, boring, noisy, and I feel like punching everybody who congratulates me with this wonderful day. Damn parades and music from &#"% 7am in the morning, the same useless speeches every year, smiling c¤"#s wherever you look, joyfulness blown out of proportions - I can't stand it. Now, there I said it! Taboo resentment is resentment too. Happy May 17th Norway

I get you, Ringo. I don't think I've ventured to the city centre here on the 17th since I was russ. That's far too busy and noisy. And I'm not sure how I feel about celebrating nationalism and national pride on the whole of it. I do think it is nice to see people in a good mood though.

Or..

I imagine..

I've been at home doing school all day. Razz

It's quite natural to feel that way. You're just in that awkward phase where you are not a child and you don't have children and you are not in a marching band which plays in three parades and one... uh... fest-public-celebration-thingy during the day. Wink

I don't think there's any way to make marching bands and speeches interesting more than once. Do you at least get fireworks at the end?

Ringo. add everything of what you said to heavy bunad and always being cold as fuck (it snowed today) and you have my experience. the only thing worth it is the champagne for breakfast (and if you're among friends) getting drunk. today i sat and listen to all my gramps discussing medical stuff... the fuck's a 'bunad'? It sounds like something painful that old people get in their joints.

The website is no help: why would you be cramming well dressed young people into old people's joint problems? That's just perverse.

The bunad would be the "well dressed" part of those particular young people. Wink

I don't have a bunad, but going by family ties I would probably have to go for this one..

I was talking to someone earlier and asked if I was particularly boring for sitting with school on the 17th of May, but she said she would probably have been too if she hadn't been working. I guess it takes all sorts.

Either way, I won't be competing.

Well, if your bunad is giving you agony, shouldn't you go to a doctor?  That's what the old people with bunads do, if I understand right.

('family ties' - are you genetically predisposed to bunads?  Sorry to hear that.)

((P.S.: The first bunad looks particulary painful. I hope you can get it taken care of. ))

Yes, it would be problematic if a bunad wasn't still in norwegian what those people are wearing and not a debilitating medical condition. Rolling Eyes

You are however genetically predisposed to one. At least in so far you should get one from somewhere you have family ties to. (ie my three examples above.)

Are young people wearing bunads these days? I'm so out of the loop. If so I'd call some of those definitely problematic. Better than baggy pants at least. Nod

This is a problem.

Australia has the highest amount of expected school years at 20.2.

Wat.

Are all Australians getting Master's degrees, or are they including preschool in this figure, or something else? scratch
