Just a bit of an update on the flood/weather we've been having.. (This is from my cabin.)

This si how it looked this summer, and how the water level normally is.


Then I visited about three weeks ago to the highest water I've seen in ages.



Then my parents went there last weekend and sent me this picture.

There's never been that much water there as far as I can remember.

Holy crap. It's a wonder the cabin is still there. In fact the first picture seems to have been taken from below the final water level.

Luckily the cabin was fine. It, like a lot of the houses around there, was built at a time when these sort of floods were a lot more common. They've since dammed both the most significant approach and exit of water into the lake, and they normally regulate it to keep the water levels from rising as much as that. So, you normally don't see anything like this much water. (I don't think I ever have.) This time there were just too much water though. (The water level rose about 2,5 meters, and there was a major flood down river too.)

Is all this flooding just from rain or is there something else going on? I hope no one has been hurt or killed.

I think it was mostly a couple of days of torrential downpour, from some storm or other, just weeks after we had the same thing happen, so, everything everywhere were already full to bursting with water.

As far as I've heard, theres luckily only been material damages. Not that those aren't damages as well. But, yeah, obviously very different.

Moose are big sweet dumbheads who don't have cause to get fussed with much because not much can take them on. Like big dogs. In Yellowstone Park in US you can always tell if there's a Moose by the road by the line of cars stopped. Nobody is in the cars....no, they're all standing in a ring around the poor Moose taking pictures. So he'll be standing there trying to go about his business looking but a wee bit put out as everyone treats him like some stuffed diorama in a museum - a human necklace maybe 6-8 feet away. The rangers are more pissed off than the Moose, but there's not enough of them to stand guard over every moose and chase people back to their cars.

And that's not even mentioning the ice issue.
