Wouldn't be surprised if WB had considered changing the title to 'The Thorin'

I didn't know Canadian movies were released bilingually; I just assumed there would be two different releases.
That is a hell of a photoshop too.

I really like the idea of the marketing a $800 million blockbuster boiling down to one poor overworked weta employee furiously photoshoping
Most of the posters for the trilogy have been badly photshopped i.m.o..

Do you guys remember the original "scroll" for AUJ, pre-three movie split? I think that was the first time the bad photoshop really jumped out at me.

I remember that but that IMO that wasn't nearly as bad as the scrolls for DOS and BOFA.

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
The whole movie looks as if Bilbo was just photoshopped in because they forgot about him completely until post production, although nothing is really as terrible as the CG Bill Connolly just screamed... I don't know Lazy maybe?... on PJ's behalf. The same with the CG goblin doubles used instead of the real actors filmed originally in AUJ.*
*for reference: they spend a week in sweaty costumes that they could barely breath in filming the fight scenes in goblin town. So PJ thought he could let them breath and would later make CG heads for them. Then he just erased them completely.

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
I feel most sorry for Conan Stevens, didn't he leave Game of Thrones specifically because he was originally offered a big supporting role as Azog/Bolg?, then almost all of his scenes were cut from the film, and replaced by another actor doing motion capture...

It is atrocious. Compare the plopped-in figures throughout the unevenly spliced landscape to the nicely-ordered characters on the cover of the Lord of the Rings movies:
There is order, and focus on the characters above ALL ELSE. Their faces dwarf Nazgul and Orthanc alike (in the last poster Barad-dur is about the same size as Aragorn's nose).
It's not an entirely fair comparison, of course, as for the Hobbit films several full-size film posters of individual actors were released, and Desolation of Smaug's poster at the very least attempts to go for the same ordering of characters that we saw in LotR.
I guess the point really is just that I don't like the scroll. The first one is chock-full of tricks meant to deceive and allay suspicions (or at least has that affect (HOW CONVENIENT)) and of course looks very poor.

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
I really like the LOTR posters. I think the painting-like effect (which is probably a Photoshop filter) helps sell it, making the joints look more natural and giving it a more fantasy-ish, less computerized feel.

I had forgotten about this, looks too bright and over touched (though I suppose tonally that suits the more light hearted Tone of AUJ), wheras the LOTR posters actually looked like posters, here it just looks like they chucked in random screengrabs

cuttings from off the floor, stitched together so at least the wastage can redeem a few sheckles from this God awful fiasco. I think the posters reflect the erratic goings on inside peejers mind.

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
Looks like the rumor regarding the running time was correct. It will actually be 20 extra minutes, not the 30 that were announced last week. Unless it isn't.
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2015/08/07/98953-street-date-and-running-time-for-the-bofta-ee/
Looking like a home video release in mid-November is all but confirmed as well, following the the theatrical EE re-releases in early October (the Digital Bits' article contradicts the still-online theatre listings showing BOFA's day back in theatres as October 13 so who the hell knows when it'll be exactly).

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess they just have to milk it for all it's worth seeing as how there are no Middle-earth movies in the foreseeable future.

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
None of the LOTR-EE theatrical releases, either the ones in the early 2000s or the revival in 2011 made a ton of money, since they were one-night events for the superfans only. In the case of the 2011 revival, WB also did a terrible job getting the word out, since a ton of people even on Tolkien forums were unaware of the screenings. I don't imagine these screenings will be any different, but I think it's a nice final touch for the people who enjoyed The Hobbit all the way through. I probably won't go though I have reconsidered a little since my earlier dismissal, since it would mean getting to see BOFA-EE like a month early and thus avoiding it having it bump up against Star Wars season. (I'm still pretty sure I won't go to AUJ-EE or DOS-EE since I've seen those already and I'd need to drive pretty far for any of them.)

Re: Battle of the Five Armies - Extended Edition
I haven't spent seven years of my life trying to savor the experience of "being there" for an entire Middle-earth trilogy to give up at the one yard line. You have no idea how left out I felt at times when I was 14 (new online but making friends for the first time in years) and listened to people talk about their experiences watching LOTR in theatres. The Hobbit being shit is sort of beside the point; it's kinda what I was expecting anyway (though not to this degree). It's more about closing out a chapter of my life that amounts to like a third of my time on this planet. And I still haven't entirely come to terms with that.
