Do I get to dress like Sean Connery from Zardoz at the same time?

Orwell does the gardening. Sometimes, of course, my policing can be very hot work. Crying or Very sad

I knew nothing of that movie, and I'm trying desperately to return to that happy state after seeing that photo. Shocked

What was the name of that woman in Lake-town? I thought the actress did a good job with what little dialogue she had, and that she was a good example of real feminine energy.

I liked that video that bungo posted. The guy makes a good point about most of LOTR's imitators only copying its most superficial elements. Then again, if it were easy to write great stories and characters, almost every movie would have those. Shrugging

I think the problem is that most movies nowadays are made by committees rather than an artistic spark. Maybe it's because they're too expensive for the studio to take that bet so they play things safe and appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I think some people make great movies and others just try. A great movie could be the same old same old done perfectly, or something amazingly out there - done perfectly. Formulas can fail, but they can work too in the right hands. Tolkien is a case in point. There is nothing particularly original in ithe parts he uses, but somehow his combining - and combination choice - of old ideas and his sure hand made it original. So easy, I should do it myself one day. Very Happy

I think it goes a bit to far in hallowing the LotRs triology, which certainly had it's internal problems. Good points on the specfics though, and the Hobbit specifically. Nod

Something like that, yes. Though I still see flaws in them. Not that I don't want them to be good, I would really have liked to have been able to see RotK without cringing at parts of it, there are just some moments throughout I struggle with. Shrugging

Kind of.

Did the playa in that tight video you just shared make a mistake when he was all like "And the elves ask for some cheddar to rebuild their home."

Surely he meant the Men of Laketown needed their home rebuilt?

A rare misstep from the good doctor. I'm entirely serious when I say that Thug Notes has taught me more about literary analysis than the English lit class I took in college (granted that's at least in part because I couldn't give a shit about literary analysis at the time).

But if you praise the good doctor so much I must see more of his work to share in your academic joys!

I have to agree with Eldo, the analysis part is surprisingly good in the short space they have on the stuff I have watched. Nod

They also do other series which are very entertaining.

Boss Bitches of History (swearing and sexual references)

And an Alien tv Movie Review show reviewing artifacts left over from the earth after it blew up-
