They just sent out an emergency alert over the mobile phone network that there's a tornado warning for the next half hour. We don't get many in Maryland but even when we do it's nothing like they have in the Midwest.

Edit: and now flash flood warnings for the next four hours.

Thanks Mrs Figg. It's thundering a lot but so far the worst thing to happen is the lights flickering. And we're now past the time limit for the tornado warning.

Yikes! Lived in tornado alley my whole life. Tornadoes are scary! Hope you got through unscathed.

do you have those underground tornado bunker things like in the Wizard of Oz?

I guess I wouldn't mind getting carried away to the merry old land of Oz.

It seems all clear here now.  I only remember once where tornadoes actually got close to where I was living at the time, about six or seven years ago, and it was pretty freaky.  We were at an outdoor swimming pool in Aberdeen Proving Ground (step-mom is a military contractor which is how we got in) when the warnings came and the clouds looked like they were coming alive and were really mad about it. Most of the time the warnings don't amount to anything, at least for my neck of the woods.  But better safe than sorry, certainly.

Baingil used to message me from the closet she'd shelter in during tornadoes in Arkansas so I know enough about tornadoes to know I'm pretty lucky in where I live.

Good to know it passed it you by unharmed Eldo- and did Baingil send those messages from under the shoe mountain?

I believe the shoe mountain was part of her defense from the tornadoes, yes.

If you look at the horizon in the first picture, on the left, you will see small white spots- this is what those are, you can see how impressively large they are compared to the cranes behind and the power station on the shore-

Looks a lovely evening stroll At least your coast is quieter than ours today ! We had Lammas Festival & it was packed out It should be on tomorrow as well but, the weather forecast is predicting nasty rain & winds ? Your pics look so peaceful.

There's always one aint there ! I should be grateful, if not amazed, that you didnt find a descriptive Vegetable David !

Its cause its from the back- if you see it from the front all the llamas are carrying suspiciously shaped vegetables in their mouths.

That one time i didn't bring my phone to work i met this awesomly chill reindeer on my way home.. Typical..

I love reindeer. Over recent years they are becoming popular here in Animal Parks & farms as attractions for the public. And at Christmas now, It pulls the crowds to see Santa & his reindeer, real reindeer Its a chance for me to see an animal I love & to be able to feel how wonderfully soft its fur is

Then have reindeer burgers afterwards
