I went to the island a few years ago and they talked about it then.... some visual evidence above.
Forest - we stayed in Monterey and had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf which is where the whale trip sailed from. There was a car auction going on... lots of expensive cars about.

Breathtaking view There is so much visual evidence, yet alone scientific evidence, of all these countries that was once joined as one great land mass. If you lined up several "natural" photo's, without headings, how many could you guess correctly, especially as there are shared trees, rocks, etc.

Cool! I'm glad they left the graffiti.
My friend was heavily armed and entrenched in a rifle pit at the time, ready to kill or die when the Feds stormed them. Fortunately the government backed down first. And as Forest said, government policy changed significantly.

I hope you tried the clam chowder at the wharf. It's pretty much the perfect thing for lunch on a Monterey day-trip. I love it anyway, they serve it in bread bowls.
Norc- That mountain must have been a big troll, haha.

Sounds fun though, Lance. Look forward to the pictures.
It goes way beyond that: you have to understand that California is about half the size of Europe. What's impressive is they both did San Francisco and the Redwoods. But Lance never mentioned gorging on Taco Bell while in San Fran.

Probably because Lance would not be with us anymore if he'd eaten enough Taco Bell for it to qualify as gorging.
Re: The road goes ever on and on - A Travel Thread
Part 2 (some of these taken on my phone)
So started in L.A. We stayed at Venice Beach, home of the renowned Muscle Beach!
My sand creation!
Day trip to Hollywood Boulevard
2014 Geekie Awards was on which happened to be starting as we parked up. Got treated to this.
Sad moment down the walk of fame.
Picture I took for the forum... made of matchsticks
Also took a trip to Universal Studios. Wish I had taken my camera, the War of the Worlds plane crash set was amazing. Only got this on my phone though.
Next off to San Diego, via Dana Point. Wouldn't mind living here.
Day out at the zoo
Next stop Palm Springs.... just for some shopping and a water park.
Then off inland and though the Mojave desert
Until Vegas appears
Last few days before we came home
Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel
And one last picture... me at a distance enjoying my birthday present
Hope you enjoyed.

Re: The road goes ever on and on - A Travel Thread
Excellent pics Lance looks like a cracking holiday you had.
Still think Vegas is the single weirdest idea ever and only Americans could have come up with it. (actually that goes for muscle beach too which if someone said to me, we'll go to muscle beach, I am likely to turn up with a spade and a bucket ready to collect my mussles!)

A Fjordian one, obviously!
You are always encourage to head out and up on a mountain to meet the locals. Nobody says hello to you on the streets unless they already know you. But while hiking Fjordians always says hello and may have a little chat. And then if you do get to speak to a local at the store or something you have something to say. "I went up on *insert local mountain top*" "Oh how interesting! Did you start at this spot or that spot? Etc.... Have you been to...?"

Meant to add- that batmobile is still the coolest one they've come up with since the original tv series.
