Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
I often start to sing that song when I see Blue. It's a old and sad little song about a boy who worries about his little baby goat who hadn't come home. But when I come to "the bear with his fluffy fur may take you late at night", I suddenly think of Ringo for some reason.

I got to say, it's quite amusing this image you and Norc seem to have of me

Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
So while writing a response to the questions about the status of my historical essays about Forumshire, I added this coda, but I figured it was more relevant to this thread:
The tone problem has been my biggest stumbling block lately. IIRC Amarie had enjoyed the putative political themes that I was trying to work into the third Needlehole, but part of the fun of TNM was silly stuff like pocket crossbows, which wouldn't work with the direction my ideas have been going for some time.
I have spent a fair amount of time working on ideas for a fictionalized history of Forumshire in a fleshed-out fictional world (sort of like a greatly expanded version of the setting from The Needlehole Mysteries) that would aim to adapt events from the forum's actual history, to explore psychological drama in greater detail than most forum fanfic has so far, and to give me an excuse to work ideas from political science into my fiction. But I have my doubts about whether such a story would be enjoyable to read, due to my own limitations as a writer and because it would be very different and much less lighthearted than the majority of fiction posted in the Creative Corner.

Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
Why wouldn't it be enjoyable? I am waiting for your story written in by you with your tone and your ideas. I'll be very sad if I won't get to read more of it because you've decided that serious = boring. That's just your self doubt talking. And if the NHM stuff is too elusive now, you can always go play with Norc's birthday fic for a while.

Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
Thanks Amarie, that means a lot to me. I really appreciate that you still care about my writing 2-3 years on
And thanks to everyone else who was being encouraging in the Site Issues thread. ^_^

Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
I am quite a late comer to the forums so would be interesting to hear about the early days.
Re: The Needlehole Mysteries [3]
Isn't the situation with the Needlehole mysteries actually a bit like Needlehole mystery?
(That would have worked so much better before Eldo came along and explained. Eldo explaining is quite Needlehole mystery-y though. )

I try to keep an air of mystique around my writing because straight up saying that I'm not excited by the Needlehole setting anymore is likely to get me in big trouble with certain people.

You could always do a Conan Doyle. {{{As in a Reichenbach Falls.}}}

I am sure you have nothing to worry about. Just because you promised a Fjordian lass a present and feel content with giving her the wrapping doesn't mean you might be haunted by highly trained seagulls with great targeting skills or suffer reindeer infestation in your kitchen. These things just happen.
That corn maze is a yearly event, is it?

Work-a-hobbit Part 28 coming shortly I think... at least I'm working on it.
