Yeah I usually hate when they say a characters full name aloud for the benefit of the audience. But I actually really appreciate it here. (I didn't know what the kings name was until I looked up a big family tree.) So far if I had to pick a favorite character it would be Tyrion or John Snow. I know Tyrion is around for a while so I'll try not to get too attached to Snow.
Those are probably my two favourite characters. Arya is also high up there among my favourites, though that happened very gradually, and it was in the fourth and fifth books that my fascination with her character really began to grow. I've heard that the characters in the show are, overall, older than they are in the books. I can understand why they made this decision, and for characters like Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon I think it's a good decision as they appear older than they are in the books as well. With Arya, however, I think they should've stuck to the book
- minor Arya spoiler:
- because her young age is what makes her so, for lack of a better word, badass as her story and character developes

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Yes I agree. I watch the series over at my sister's house when it comes out. She has a large television mounted on the wall that we usually use, but it's a rather poor specimen, and much of the detail is lost. One week we had some recording issues and used her boyfriend's hd screen instead. The experience was far superior.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
HD is a real jump in quality, I was shocked how Crystal clear it is.
Arya and Sansa have really grown on me since season 1 when they were both quite brattish , Arya in particular has become one of my favorites this season, her relationship with Hound is developing into a bitter sweet relationship, they are both lost souls. I think this is different to the book but I think we need some displays of fellow feeling and friendship among all the grimness, no matter how bloodsoaked. So I am glad if they have changed certain things and the Hound and Arya continue to be the strange couple they are for a bit longer.

The DVD set came with a detailed family tree and a map of Westeros. This will make things easier.

Okay just finished episode 6, so PJ must have gotten his "let's gild Smaug" idea from Game of Thrones.

The actual dragon seems to have taken it rather better, though.
Also, bungo won't get this yet, but I lolled.

Don't go on google, already showing the end of the fight. Spoiling it for a lot of people who haven't watched it yet.

That was absolutely disgusting. No. I even knew it was going to happen because I read it somewhere, but it still was horrible. He was so cool and he dies LIKE THAT? Tyrion's face was heartbreaking. And what's the deal with Sansa and Little Finger, are they weirdly together now?
Only two episodes left, and the next is the attack on Castle Black!
- Spoiler:
- I know. Oberyn was one of my favourite characters in the book for the short amount of time he was there. Feel the same in the show now too! Glad this episode picked up with things going down on the wall and Jorah and the eyrie. Last few episodes have been a little slower.

If you don't look at the spoilers, you can have chocolate covered almonds and a milkshake. Here to help.

- Spoiler:
- The question is, why did he kill him off so soon? Like halfwise said before I began reading the books, don't get attached to the characters, you'll end up sad or disappointed

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Finished season 1.
I actually spoiled the Red Wedding for myself. It was impossible to avoid at the time, and I didn't really care about not knowing what happens. But I don't know if it will happen in season 2 or 3, so that will kind of be a surprise.
I'm looking forward to seeing things pick up a bit in terms of pacing, as you all have implied. So about 28 episodes until I'm caught up?

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
We're proud of you for being strong, Mrs Figg! Shame about someone spoiling it for you. Though like bungo says, once the show airs, it's really hard to avoid spoilers. For as much as people complain about douchey book readers, the entertainment media is a million times worse. It's not like there are a thousand blogs all plastering spoilers in their headlines as they read through each chapter.
Aw, that's a shame. Did you know what happens to Ned Stark before you finished the first season? I've always been of the opinion that really good stories hold up even if you know what happens, but all the same, some twists are best experienced blind. You've still got over 24 hours of show to watch through though, as each episode is indeed a full hour, thanks to HBO not having commercial breaks.

I did know what happened to Ned, but I didn't know any of the details around it (but it was still powerful when I watched it, and I hated Joffrey even more ). I also didn't know the truth about Joffrey.
I'm trying to move forward unspoiled. Although, I'm afraid I may have figured out what happened during the previous episode just from people's reactions. So I should probably stop reading about it and just try to catch up as best I can.
