Balin says YES!

'ACTOR Ken Stott has announced his support for a Yes vote in the independence referendum.
"I am wholeheartedly in favour of an independent Scotland.

"I was born and raised in a Labour household to parents who, if alive today, would give their unequivocal support to the Yes campaign. In common with them, I believe in traditional Labour values: self-determination, full democracy, education for all, and a culture that reflects these ambitions.

Yeah, but we all know how well things worked out the last time that Balin got involved in trying to re-create a country.

Well I said I didn't think the CBI idiocy was over, and seems I was right on that, especially regards the BBC who refused to resign and only suspended their membership, their name for impartial reporting is already mud here and now their own journalists seem to be realising this-

"MEMBERS of the National Union of Journalists have called on the BBC to resign fully from the CBI over the business body’s backing for a ‘no’ vote in the Scottish independence referendum.
Paul Holloran, Scottish NUJ Organiser, said: “There was a real concern and anxiety about the damage that CBI membership is causing. Journalists are already under enough pressure without being caught up in a shambles that is not of their making.”
A BBC spokesman said: “We understand the NUJ have been in touch with the BBC and we will respond in due course.”- The Scotsman

Well the BBC said they would 'respond in due course' to the call by journalists to resign from the CBI, and they have made an announcement-

'The BBC is considering the matter.'

Well done BBC, way to decisively act and make your position completely clear. Last to suspend their membership when everyone had already went further and resigned there's and now they cant even decide what to do after their own journalists call them out on it.

Gordon Uni are holding fast to their suspend only position, reading between the lines I think they just want the money it can bring in-

A spokesman for Robert Gordon University said: "The purpose of the university's membership of the CBI is to assist in developing links with potential business partners. Such memberships are reviewed annually by the principal, in discussion with senior university officers.
"The university is strictly neutral in relation to the independence referendum, and does not approve of the CBI statement. However, we are not in the CBI in order to address Scottish independence."

Dundee are reviewing their position at a meeting later this week. But that has been their position since the weekend. And seems to be more down to thats when their next board meeting is.

Important as the Uni's are neither however is in the position of being the main news provider for the country with a mandate and Royal Charter to be impartial.

The CBI have been officially removed form the No campaign by the electoral commission and the CBI says-

"The CBI is a politically independent and impartial body and will ensure that it complies with Electoral Commission guidance to safeguard its political independence."


Not so sure the people believe them, or the majority of those who have resigned already for the referendum period-

Glasgow University, said, "We have no current plans to rejoin the CBI."

Tourism agency VisitScotland said: "We will not be making any decision on this matter until after a discussion with the CBI has taken place."

STV said: "Having taken the decision to resign our membership of the CBI, we will maintain this position until after the referendum on Scottish independence when we will reconsider our position."

Robert Gordon University, said: "We will review our decision to suspend our membership after the referendum in September."

Aquamarine Power Chief Executive Martin McAdam said the wave energy company would consider re-joining the CBI after the referendum.

Economic development agency Scottish Enterprise, said: "Scottish Enterprise's decision to resign from the CBI was based on our commitment to remain impartial during the current debate. We will maintain our stated position and review post referendum."

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said: "HIE intends to review its relationship with the CBI after the referendum."

The Law Society of Scotland, said: "We will be carefully considering the CBI's recent statements and the response received from the Electoral Commission."

Edinburgh's Heriot-Watt University, said: "The issue will be considered and a decision taken in due course."

The BBC, which suspended its CBI membership between 30 May and 18 September, said: "Our position remains the same and we'll form a view in due course."

Tony Banks, chairman and founder of Balhousie Care Group, and chairman of the pro-independence Business for Scotland group, said: "The organisation needs to go through a revamp of its governance, become more transparent and have a change in leadership before we'd consider rejoining."

One of our new bosses (heads up commercial banking for my company) made his views on independence quite clear yesterday. He thinks Mr Salmond is a moron as that things will turn out for the worse if the yes vote carries.

For the record he is Scottish and does have a clue about economics. Shame it was only a brief comment and he couldn't have gone in to more detail, however that wasn't the point of the conversation.

Shame there was not time to draw him further.

For me economics is not the main factor- I dont think we will be particularly better or worse off in the long run. And in fact I'd take slightly worse off in the short term if need be.
For me its about the political deficit. Folks on the NO side rarely, if ever, address that issue.
