Re: Future releases [2]
Even if any one of us win the lottery, will any of us even try re-making The Hobbit? Fat chance
Anyone looking forward to watch the Penguins of Madagascar releasing this November 26? The latest trend is here I feel, making entirely new movies sans protagonists. Take the 'Minions', for example. Extremely lovable creatures they definitely are, but who in this wide world would ever have imagined that they would have an entire movie devoted to their antics?! If I'm not mistaken, it's releasing sometime in June-July next year. And then there are these penguins from the original Madagascar movie. I guess there's going to be a face-off between the two - minions versus penguins!

Re: Future releases [2]
Wikipedia wrote:In 2006, six years after the release of the last original Peanuts strip, as well as the death of creator Charles M. Schulz, his son Craig Schulz came up with an idea for a Peanuts film, which he showed to his screenwriter son Bryan Schulz. "I was happy to show my son," Craig said. "He showed me how to make it bigger — how to blow it up more — and he helped me put in structure."[1] When presenting their film to studios, Craig stipulated that the film remain under Schulz control, saying, "We need[ed] to have absolute quality control and keep it under Dad’s legacy... You can’t bring people in from the outside and expect them to understand Peanuts."[1] On October 9, 2012, it was announced that 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios were developing a 3D computer-animated feature film based on the strip, with Steve Martino directing from the screenplay by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano. Craig, Bryan, and Uliano are also producing.[4] Craig, claiming there is no one "more protective of the comic strip than myself," chose Martino as director because he showed faithfulness to classics in his adaptation of Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!.[1]
On the film's plot, Martino said: "Here's where I lean thematically. I want to go through this journey... Charlie Brown is that guy who, in the face of repeated failure, picks himself back up and tries again. That's no small task. I have kids who aspire to be something big and great... a star football player or on Broadway. I think what Charlie Brown is — what I hope to show in this film — is the everyday qualities of perseverance... to pick yourself back up with a positive attitude — that's every bit as heroic... as having a star on the Walk of Fame or being a star on Broadway. That's the [story's] core. This is a feature film story that has a strong dramatic drive, and takes its core ideas from the strip."[1] Charlie Brown's love interest, the Little Red-Haired Girl will also appear, and will truly step out in the film, with Craig saying "She looks wonderful". [5] Martino and his animators spent over a year looking at Charles Schulz' original drawing style to help translate the "hand-drawn warmth... into the cool pixel-precision of CGI" without the fear of something getting lost in translation, such as "how the dot of an eye [conveyed] joy or sorrow so efficiently".[1] In addition to receiving the rights to use Bill Melendez' voice for Snoopy and Woodstock, Martino was also able to get the rights to archive music from previous Peanuts specials.[1]

The few episodes of the Penguins TV show that I've seen have soured me on most of the residual goodwill I felt from the original Madagascar movie (the only one I've seen), but I might check it out. I am genuinely excited for Minions though. They don't have quite as much individually defined personality as the Penguins do, but the trailer suggests that the movie will focus on just three of them in a fish-out-of-water scenario, which is much more promising than what I had previously imagined might happen.

Re: Future releases [2]
I have never really got Peanuts- I remember watching the xmas specials with American friends as a kid but they dont tend to get shown here save at xmas, and then usually on some obscure channel.
I read some of the comics as a kid too but dont have very strong memories of them.

Re: Future releases [2]
I remember watching Charlie Brown/Peanuts. Used to really like it, reminds me of the heady days of summer & when the fairground turned up & me & friends would go down in the evening, the smell of hotdogs, burgers & candyfloss in the air & diesel smells, the whirring hum of the rides & how we'd giggle & flirt with the ride workers

Re: Future releases [2]
Peanuts started in Minnesota. Charles Schulz was born here and I remember reading the comics in the weekly paper, however at that time I assume they would have been "re-runs" as I don't think he was making new comics in the mid 90's. (Fake edit: they started re-runs in 2000 after Schulz passed away, but up until 2000 they were new. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanuts)
He is honored in Landmark Plaza in St. Paul with several bronze statues of Peanuts characters.
The Mall of America in Bloomington MN used to be home to Camp Snoopy, an indoor amusement park. Due to a licensing deal falling through, it's now the home of "Nickelodeon Universe." Camp Snoopy was a fun place, and it was nostalgic for me, now it's gone. Walking through Nickelodeon Universe when I'm at the mall feels corporate and kitsch. It's too bad.
I really like Peanuts and I like to catch the holiday specials when they air.

It had a similar colour-tone and haziness to the Hobbit films, really.
Otherwise it looked cliche, tedious and awful! But I guess we'll see.
