this^ i totally agree.Eldorion wrote:Pettytyrant101 wrote:I also told them it was fine to post their vids but that it was better if they wanted to showcase their work to say hello first and make occasional posts other than their own work.
I'm gonna be blunt and say: don't do this in the future.
The obsession of a small faction here when it comes to identifying and chasing away trolls and "self-promoters" is honestly ridiculous and has the effect of alienating people who might otherwise have become productive members of the community on their own. Remember Paul Anderson? Besides, even if someone just posts there work, it can be nice to see and can spawn discussion in those threads. If someone is clearly just a being a disruptive spammer, we can identify this, but we have tried to give the benefit of a doubt to everyone who appears to be a real person rather than a bot. The alternative (which seems to be becoming more popular lately) makes the forum appear unwelcoming since the first several posts a newbie might see are just telling them off, even if you think you're just giving friendly advice. And there is unquestionably a double standard here (as Mrs Figg points out) since no one felt the need to tell off Elena, for example, and instead were creepily fawning over her until she mentioned her age.
let's learn from this and not do this in the future.

Actually Elena had made two posts of vids and responded between them to peoples comments and introduced herself to the forum before I made a single comment on it at all.
yeah, and lucky for her you were late in response
Re: Please ignore this post.
ok. i won't blow this up again, but can we all agree that mistakes were made, not only by petty, but by everyone, and that next time, we give it time ok? we let them post, we welcome it and if it does turn out to be a bot/spammer, then ok, but let's wait, let's say, more than a day, k?

But it was mostly Pettys fault

But I was busy ignoring every thread relevant to this discussion. Well, not purposely ignoring them, except for this one that asked me to, but even then I didn't ignore it only to ask people not to ask me to ignore things if they really wanted them ignored.
Now I must accept minorative blame? Drat again.

That's Forumshire speak for you!
I always seem to miss these threads, one minute a new member introduces him/her/itself, the next we are arguing about trolls, trolling and Petty (though we do that anyway of course ), I agree with Norc he was only posting a video so give things a while to settle in before anyone gets concerned, you can usually tell who genuine and who isn't (well genuine in the sense of wanting to post regulatory, genuine in regards to positive morals is a different matter...)

I think we're all aware that mistakes were made now. Maybe we shouldn't carry on about it.

Good advice. If Norc can ignore that remark about 'Cumberbatch's dad' I certainly can ignore the blame.
