The obsession of a small faction here when it comes to identifying and chasing away trolls and "self-promoters" is honestly ridiculous and has the effect of alienating people who might otherwise have become productive members of the community on their own.  Remember Paul Anderson?  Besides, even if someone just posts there work, it can be nice to see and can spawn discussion in those threads.  If someone is clearly just a being a disruptive spammer, we can identify this, but we have tried to give the benefit of a doubt to everyone who appears to be a real person rather than a bot.  The alternative (which seems to be becoming more popular lately) makes the forum appear unwelcoming since the first several posts a newbie might see are just telling them off, even if you think you're just giving friendly advice.  And there is unquestionably a double standard here (as Mrs Figg points out) since no one felt the need to tell off Elena, for example, and instead were creepily fawning over her until she mentioned her age.

Actually Elena had made two posts of vids and responded between them to peoples comments and introduced herself to the forum before I made a single comment on it at all.

And do you have literally any reason whatsoever to think that Tony wouldn't have done the same if the first page of his thread had been friendly and welcoming instead of insinuating that he was a spammer? Not to mention that, despite her introduction, Elena has still only come by here to post her videos and no one seems to mind.

And neither me nor Mrs Figg was directing the double standard complaint exclusively at you, but rather at this attitude in general.

The very first post I made to Tony opened with a compliment for his video.
I am also the only person to have reached out to him in a pm to explain posting in two threads i not an issue.

All everyone else has done is complain and point fingers at people.

No worries Eldo, I am not at my most diplomatic today either and the last thing I want is to fall out with you after all these years (blimey and has been years too!   ) I am just a bit frustrated as of late I seem to be acting like a forum lightning rod where all the shit gets laid at my door whether I had anything to do with it or not.
The Elena stuff is a classic case- I didnt respond to her when she only posted a vid, as I dont tend to respond to one off vid posters (we've seen to many of those come and go), but once she engaged with the forum I did respond to her.
Yet somehow I end up as being accused of being creepy and welcoming her instantly without a qualm.

On reflection I could have been gentler in my opening post to Tony, though I dont think I was being harsh either but for that reason I thought when I saw him on it was best to pm him with a warm welcome and clarify any misunderstanding with him over my or anyone elses posts in relation to it.

I guess the reason the Elena comparison bugged me is that she's been coming to the forum for a year and never does anything but post videos and is still welcomed with open arms. To be clear, I'm not saying that she should be turned away, but it's pretty clear why she comes here. So I read the first page of both of Tony's threads and was rather disheartened at the general tone (which was not the responsibility of any one person).

I apologize for going after you so much simply because you were responding to my posts. And I shouldn't have tried to wade into your and Mrs Figg's dynamic.

And yeah, it's been over four years now, I think.  

You were so young and innocent back then (and worried about everything!   wait hold on, that last bit hasnt changed!!    )
