Re: The General Tolkien News Thread
Scratch that there is apparently a third biopic in pre production:
http://middleearthnews.com/2014/07/17/tolkien-the-battle-of-the-two-biopics-2/
https://www.facebook.com/Thirddartstudios
I'm dubious to say the least how all there biopics are timed to appear stright after The Hobbit, and personally I can't see the Tolkien Estate seeming any more enthused, if anything (from what I can see) they avoid the sort of publicity the wider media brings, I definitely see another 'Fall of Gondolin' situation.
We'll have to wait and see I guess

In 3d no doubt, can't wait for the extended editions!
But seriously, I'm actually kinda surprised a BBC series hasn't been mooted before, they excell at this sort of drama, and it would be nice to see Tolkien associated with his home country rather than New Zealand...

You know of course that a Jewish Ozhobbit by name John Monash used the tank in a new way to win the war but at a later date his strategic use of the tank helped inspire Hitler's Blitzkrieg. Talk about the ironies of war.

Gotta get that cash cow's teats in your mouth before it dries up.
It'll be interesting to see how many of these products actually make it to a release.

Re: The General Tolkien News Thread
It would be really strange if this case resulted in an end to all Middle-earth themed licensing, although it would be resolved too late to affect the parade of stuff churned out to coincide with The Hobbit films. I think the more likely scenario is a compromise/settlement of some sort, but IANAL.
Re: The General Tolkien News Thread
IANAL?
That's either something rather self-deprecating, or a text-speak new to me.

You've got to keep an eye on Eldo, Forest. If you don't keep him in check he'll convert the whole friggin' language into acronyms.

Tolkien's favorite tree, the one that appears in the last picture ever taken of him, is to be cut down for safety reasons after two large limbs broke off recently. The wood will probably be used for a commemorative project and descendants of the tree will be specially cultivated.

Seems Tolkien's translation of the Book of Jonah is going to be published:

Sad, but I'm sure the Prof would have approved of the way they're handling it.

Yeah, I think they're being as considerate and respectful considering the safety issue (and more so than many people would, given that it's just a tree, though I'm sure Tolkien would have disagreed with that "just").

Elthir! I thought the Tower of Lore had been abandoned for a bit there. Although this explains why its been repainted in a difficult to be precise about shade of greyish white.
