Hogwash! I'd say if they had put those scenes in, and created a inarticulate movie with unjointed characters and themes, that would be unacceptable!

Now now, you know we purists (as I'm speaking as one for the present) don't believe the book should be put word for word on the screen, some things will need changing in the interests of film. But not changes to the characters or story arc that fundamentally alter the story!!

He's captured the book' whilst watching something that's not even in the bloody book!

Yup! Loving the new avatars size and the embedded video thing too! The pic is one of my own created in Terragen2- its a bit squashed hence the slim pointy trees- but still good to have the bigger size.

I've kept my (recovered) photo (avatar) small, as it fits with my reputation for meekness and humility, and because I don't know how to make it big.

I used this site to make the picture larger, though that caused it to be a little pixellated. I understand if you prefer the smaller, clearer version, but just in case, but here you go.
