I love old books shops, shelves of cluttered books, endless stories and possibilities stretching away on shelves- sadly they are becoming a rare sight here these days. Bloody Amazon

I liked that this store had a dedicated section for "Marxism/Revolution".
Re: Unpublished Writing by J.R.R Tolkien?
Wayne G Hammond and Christina Scull keep an Addenda and Corrigenda page on their website, listing additions and corrections to all their books:
With respect to their amazing Reader's Companion to The Lord of the Rings, I note that a certain line within the Grey Havens entry: "Upon the quay..." has not been addended nor corrigended.
Could it be that Hammond and Scull, two of the world's top Tolkien scholars... are not reading my posts?
Hmm.

I don't remember that particular post. I take it 'quay' is the wrong word?

The Lord of the Rings Reader's Companion, The Grey Havens, page 675, entry 1030 (III 310): "upon the quay beside a great grey horse stood a figure robed all in white awaiting them. As he turned..."
Hammond and Scull's entry about Gandalf and Shadowfax currently (as far as I know) includes this line: "Grey is often used to mean 'white' when describing the colour of a horse."

Re: Unpublished Writing by J.R.R Tolkien?
I am surprised such esteemed Tolkien scholars would be so unaware of the minefield they are embarking into here, dont they know what a grey area this issue is?

And to think I came here to see what new unpublished work had been discovered.

Too bad Shadowfax isn't in the illustration by Pauline Baynes that Tolkien commented on, since there's more of that commentary that hasn't yet been published. Bill the pony is there, but I doubt the colour choice for Bill will burn Tolkien's toast or inspire a comment.
I'll note that this post is also not a reference to anything actually newly published

Re: Unpublished Writing by J.R.R Tolkien?
Yes, one must be careful to obey the most important and overiding rule here, Elthir. You may not yet be aware of it as you've only been here a few years... now, what it is, is.... .... mmm.... can't seem to find it just now... now that's strange.... now where is it... unpublished? published? I just can't seem to... Will have to get back to you, Elthir....

Re: Unpublished Writing by J.R.R Tolkien?
I meant (possibly) written rules that we would would actually read providing we had ones that were actually worth reading! I'd take it as a personal kindness to me, Eldo, if you didn't try to derail my perfectly reasonable arguments in future. It now appears to me that this may be a grey (or silver) area, and we know how much Elthir is confused by ambiguities... or at least, how I am... oh I can't remember... Okay, so just (with all respect) butt out, orright!
