File sharing services- the files are called torrents- they dont have one source you download them off loads of people who already have it (called seeds) and as you are downloading it other people are uploading from the bits of it you already have among all the other sources.
Its where I get my films to edit from as ripping the dvd/bluray is much more hassle than just downloading a file thats already in the right format for editing.
You need a program like utorrent to download torrent files.

It's a method for sharing large files over the Internet without needing the heavy-duty hardware usually associated with files over a certain size. It's most infamous for being used by copyright pirates to share and download movies, games, and software without paying for them.

Yeah, I just read about the distributed file sharing, but it seems to have become more than that in practice. Is it a sort of flea market for large files (mainly video) that people want to post to the world at large, or something that's more user-to-user like dropbox?
