Oh Blue --- per my last post. I only rant about what I rant about because that first song is truly worth finessing. I think it's a really good song. I hope I didn't go overboard a bit -- I certainly went off at quite a tangent.  Very Happy

Though I'm having some issues with the new string which is audible. So maybe I should record a new one.

Orwell, I don't mind at all.

Actually, I'm rather flattered you think it worth the effort.  Very Happy

I think you're right about the song's length. The intro music could be halved to make it snappier. I like the music for the first half of the intro but then it starts getting a bit tedious (I have a short attention span!) The main chorus (verse-chorus?) could be narrowed down to one time at a time - though repeated twice at the end, the second time slowed right down, maybe the music minimized with focus on voice (half spoken?) I'm not sure if that would make the song too short, but I think it's worth experimenting with the idea. A musical interlude before the last two choruses (by my reckoning) would be good, but perhaps some other instrument other than guitar might be used as a solo* -- or the guitar playing a different solo. This section could be as long as your current intro as we should be well and truly in the mood by then, but the guitar solo would have to be painstakingly worked out to keep interest if you make it quite long.

{{{*What about some really old instrument like a recorder or even a Fjordian twanglelyre?}}}

Just my initial thoughts.  Very Happy

And feel free to break my spamathon. It's expected!  Very Happy

Btw I could not make out the lyrics in the first middle section.

Well, thank you for the input Orwell. Very Happy

I might or might not do all or any of that. It might have been the kick up the backside I needed to go back and do it more properly.

Yeah, first middle section isn't really finished, but it sounds passably finished enough that someone might believe it was.  Laughing

Not me. Are the words not quite finished in your mind? Are they indistinct because of a lack of conviction by the writer? Don't suppose you could PM all the lyrics.  I'd like to a have a total picture of what you're trying to put over. I promise not to steal them  --- though I might borrow a few choice lines as inspiration! Who knows, I might PM back some further suggestions as one lyricist to another --- for your consideration only, of course, and no charge. Very Happy

I guess I may as well jump in here. There's good stuff (I really liked the second one, personally), but to me in both cases there was too much repetition without variation. Repetition can be very powerful if a secondary theme is developed through it: can be as simple as a crescendo, slight variations in melody, background instrumentation that varies with each pass, etc. Anyway, the listener has to feel that the music is still going somewhere or will be quick to lose interest. Two identical passages is about all most people will put up with: once a third go-round starts the audience suspects a fixed pattern with no obvious end and will begin to check out on you.

Other than that it's sounding very accomplished, the vocals especially.

Been listening back again. It is areally good song. I think I'm getting abetter idea on what the lyrics are. I'm getting the guitar out and will see if I can work out the tune. Sounds nicely simple. If I can come up with a version that I think 'rocks (not literally) I'll cover it on Mobile! It might never be the same again. Very Happy

{{{Disclaimer. I don't think my voice will suit it -- but that has never stopped me singing before.  Very Happy }}}

Exaxctly. Maybe a new verse - or a repeated verse - to compensate for my suggested paring of choruses?  Shrugging

Leave it to me and Halfy, Blue.  Nod We'll sort it out for you. After all, I assume like me you love people interfering with your creative muse.

Thank you for the feedback Halfwise.  Smile

I do wonder if they appear a bit too much like that by being put together in their current state. As I told Orwell, the forst one appears a bit too much that way because I haven't really finished it and the second one was written like that very intentionally. Still they both seem to lend a bit from that style of song writing.

And I'm glad to hear you liked the second song. Strangely every second person I've showed to songs to seem to have a different favourite. I do intend to add more to the repeated line at the end to increase the dynamic.

As I said they are both a bit throwaway at the moment, but I wanted to share something.

Glad to hear you're coming around to the second one Orwell.
