Newshound should be Tolkien related.

I suppose we could have a most Dedicated Fan of Other Works category- so Who, Sherlock, Harry Potter, and some anime thing Eldo likes (  Wink  ) and that would keep the Newshound award for Tolkien related news.

You mean separate awards for each other fandom, or just most dedicated/evangelistic fan of anything other than Tolkien?

Well I have no objections, but then as one of the people who put up a lot of stuff in the Who thread I have a vested interest- the real question is, are there enough viable contenders to make it a real vote?

Yeah, I think Mrs Figg raises a reasonable point that we don't want to have too many awards intended solely for Petty and Norc. Razz

nope. Actually to be brutally honest I think some of the categories are sucky. But its not my choice so its tough. I think having Most Popular and Most Respected is kind of divisive and unpleasant, I personally would prefer something thats less of a schoolyard popularity contest.  Shrugging
Thats why I didnt want to be included last year, but I was given an award anyway. (which obviously was a pleasant surprise)

Well there is no Most Popular this year Mrs Figg and the Most Respected award is a long standing Forumshire award inspired in humour over Odo's at the time self claimed title of Most Respected- so it was made into an award in the first year to put that to the test (and Ringdrotten won it!) since then because of the humour of Odo losing his self declared title to someone it has been a favourite award to compete for, its in no way divisive.

The spirit of all the awards up for grabs is one of typical Forumshire frivolity and they should not be taken seriously as any sort of judgement on anyone. They are just a bit of end of year fun and are best enjoyed in that spirit.

"I think some of the categories are sucky. But its not my choice so its tough."- Mrs Figg

I have put up the categories and nominees for weeks now saying specifially they were all open to discussion- I dont know what more I can do?  Shrugging

You need to add Amaringo to the Forum Couples section Petty. Wink Also, I'll get you an updated list for Best Newcomer soon.

Mrs Figg, I think you raise a good point about Most Popular, so I'm okay to see that one gone.  But if you have concerns over the others I'd be glad to hear them. Smile I do think Most Respected is one of the more tongue-in-cheek Awards though (heck, I've won it, so it can't mean much! Laughing).

well Best Male and Best Female is pretty much the same thing as most popular. Its the Prom King and Queen all over again, and I hated that when I was at school. (but thats my problem admitedly Mad )
If Most Respected is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek it should be made more explicit. Newcomers dont know its about something Odo did years ago, and I didnt know either. It sounds like I am sour graping and trying to ruin the fun, but I dont like popularity contests within small groups I dont find it fun at all. (again my problem  Mad ). Just ignore me and get on with it.  No I got issues.

I've always thought of the Most Respected award as an award inspired both by Odo's claim to being ever so respectable and by Tolkien's own description of Hobbits as respectable, meant just for fun and having nothing to do with actual respect Wink I only talk about it as I unexpectedly won it the first time, as Petty points out Laughing

Not a bad idea, Eldo. It's supposed to be something fun and tongue-in-cheek as you say, so if changing it to respectable helps showing that I'm all for it Smile

So the most prestigous and hisorically important award is now a mere joke.... Forsooth! ... Though.... if the Award is but a joke, then it explains why I have not won it since the First Award - which I got, if I remember rightly, having wisely voted myself in for that one... So me NOT being voted Most Respectable since means... it means people do think I'm Most Respected - but not in an Award sense - but in a True sense. There is no other expalnation.  Oh dear - my beloved disrespectable Forumshiran folks, you DO know in your hearts that I am Most Respectable, and always will be. There can be no other conclusion to be drawn. Eru Bless you one and all...  Sad

Good to see Most Popular gone. Divisive. Problematic. Rigged (obviously). Devoid of prestige ever since I won in an un-rigged vote. Well done. Good thinking. Nod

You'll have to ask Petty about that, but I at least got you a "Most crabbit" nomination for the rant against the people who were mucking up the delivery your Playstation. Very Happy

I still think Norc merits a lore nomination for her elvish, but maybe it's just me. Shrugging
