Because its about the films, which are as far from Tolkien as you can get and still get away with using the name.
And, more importantly, just outed Eldo as a liberal (I knew I was right that first Awards year to put him in the most liberal category, but I believed him when he protested his innocence Mad )

Neither was I. Compare and contrast.
On the one hand, me, crabbit, unpleasant, drunk, hating the end results, and there's you, generally happy with the outcome, not to crabbit on a scale of 1-10- therefore a liberal.
I am afraid you have convicted yourself this time Eldo. Nod You have been a secret liberal all along! Nod

Not to fear Eldo I shall do all I can to cure you at all costs. Twisted Evil (Not including any actual costs)

Rated only according to how much I enjoy watching them:

FOTR: 10
TT: 7
ROTK: 8
AUJ: 4

And Once Upon a Time in America is a fantastic film, Petty, I had almost forgotten about it. Time for a rewatch soon, I think Smile

Here's my full ratings on a scale of 10, according to how much I enjoy each film (not their qualities as adaptations).

Animated movies:
TH: 4.5
LOTR: 2
ROTK: 3

PJ's movies:
FOTR: 9
TTT: 9
ROTK: 10
AUJ: 5

Objectively, FOTR is pretty clearly the best of the bunch, but I think I enjoy ROTK the most. Sometimes I put TTT at the top, even though it has a lot of the lowest lows in the trilogy. So my ratings are not set in stone at all. Shrugging

Also I think it's impotant to note that the ratingssystem isn't without it's flaws. It's certainly not a standarised measurment one apply. So one persons 3 might easily be another persons 7, one persons 7 might be another persons 10 and so on.

I think I tend to rate the movies a bit lower as they are obviously blockbuster movies and are therefor playing to the lowest common denominator at times.

Good point, Bluebottle. I know that I have a fairly generous rating scale. I try to rate movies based on how they succeed on their own terms, too, so if a blockbuster absolutely succeeds at every level of being a blockbuster I'll give it a 9 or a 10 rating. That doesn't mean I necessarily think it has the same artistic merit of a serious dramatic film, but if it works, it works. I use somewhat different criteria for other genres too. Not saying that's the right or best way to rate films, but it's just what I've found myself doing when I try.

Yes, so our ratings of the movies is probably closer than just the numbers would imply.

Apart from the obvious exceptions, of course.
