Osgood is the pointless character of The Day Of The Doctor. Her character adds very little to the story, except that of a pathetic member of UNIT just waiting to get zapped by the baddies, and as a foil to the Doctors god-like presence. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she stands around praying for The Doctor to save everyone, as if he were her god. To top off the dreary scarf placement its not even hers. Yes, it helped her survive in a pinch, but it was not her scarf that saved her, it was Tom Bakers. She is a pale wimpy drapers dummy of a person, its insulting. Maybe Moffat thought putting glasses on her and giving her a 'defect' makes her interesting brave or intelligent. It doesnt.
Osgood could have been put to better use instead of being the Doctor fangirl. Unfortunately she’s relegated to a role of damsel in distress.

What the character actually does in the episode-

Leads the team that analysis the stone samples.
Works out what happened to the statues and where the Zygons are hiding.
Runs from a Zygon.
Outwits the Zygon and escapes.
Rescues her friends from the Zygons.
Goes with her friends to confront the Zygons.
Takes part on the peace negotiations between the two races.

Your description of her-

a pathetic member of UNIT just waiting to get zapped by the baddies,
a foil to the Doctors god-like presence
she stands around praying for The Doctor to save everyone
She is a pale wimpy drapers dummy of a person, its insulting.

I fail to see how you are describing the character I saw in the actual episode.

And I saw her being afraid the whole time, yet still doing these heroic things like saving her friends from Zygons instead of just running away, as epitomising the 3rd Doctor quote-

"Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway."

wets herself

Again you say this. No she does not, you are using a disparging choice of phrase to imply she is a poor cowardly portrayal of a woman.

prays to the Doctor some more

Only once more when the nuke countdown starts, as that is something beyond her powers to stop.

"rescues, dont think so"

Then what do you call it when you escape from the bad guys, find your way to where they are holding your captured friends and release them to safety? Because I thought that was rescuing. scratch

she doesnt have any choice

Why not? There is nothing stopping her refusing to go to the Under Gallery after or before she rescues her friends. She could have went and hide in a cupboard at any point.
But she doesnt she chooses to rescue her friends and go with them to confront the Zygons.
We see no one coercing her at all.

"Zygon tells her it prefers her 'prettier' sister"

Its the bad guy, trying to be bad and nasty to her. But her actions prove it was wrong. It underestimated her because it took its imprint from her, and she had been underestimating herself.
She goes on to rescue everyone now and to begin to fullfill her true potential.
Same as the Doctor always does for people.

What would such a list be highlighting? Theres loads of people he hasn't saved, and loads he has, in Day of the Doctor he saved everyone.

If you want sexism what about Moffats clearly sexist and disgusting portrayal of the male scientist, whose only job is take a phone call like a secretary, move a painting because only men do heavy lifting, and then scream and have his face grabbed by a Zygon. Its an absolute disgrace Moffat is allowed to write this blatant shockingly sexist drivel about men. Mad

Nor does Osgood who we are discussing. She does none of those things.
She does do a hell of a lot more than the male scientist however. And she works out about the Zygons before he even has a clue.
And of the top three jobs in UNIT, two are held by women, one of whom Kate is also the military commander.
Im still not seeing this rampant sexism you insist is so obvious.

you were talking about sexism, nobody mentioned Osgood and I wasnt referring to her either. Although, calling her not pretty because she is a nerd is a bit rich. The rampant sexism is obvious in the Elizabeth 1 character. Its strange that only female characters in Moffat World get to be sexualized. The men never are. They receive sexual overtones from the women, (Nefertiti, Amy, River, Eizabeth 1) and it generally entails the men making comments about 'legs or skirts' and looking embarrased or furtive while they stare down the cleavages of the pressing boobs. I have seen many many portrayals of Elizabeth 1, I would have accepted a Kate, Glenda, Helen or Vanessa type version, but never ever this Benny Hill comedy floozy. What does she do? stab a Zygon..way to go.. physical brutality, is that it? she doesnt use superior intellect, or the full gamut of her considerable abilities? no she stabbed it with her wittle bitty knife.. superb stuff Moffat.

Taken from your post about the sexism in the episode- you start with Elizabeth.

"Its strange that only female characters in Moffat World get to be sexualized. The men never are."

Moffat created Captain Jack- the single most sexualised being in the universe probably and he is a man.
