Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
As far as I am aware the Welsh and NI are not wanting to leave the Union, or having a referendum on it.
So the UK will be those three if Scotland leaves.
If they are out the union then there would be no such thing as a union flag. Everyone would just have their own flag again.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
On the matter of Wales, I've always liked the design that one the Telegraph's poll for a new Union Flag.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1572168/The-new-face-of-Britain-Flag-poll-results.html
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1572168/The-new-face-of-Britain-Flag-poll-results.html
When Ian Lucas, a Welsh Labour MP, suggested the Union flag be redrawn to incorporate the Welsh dragon, he could not have imagined that this would be the "popular" choice.
Even at the height of Cool Britannia surely Tony Blair would have baulked at adopting this sunglasses-wearing, flame-haired cartoon dragon as our national emblem.
And to make matters worse it was designed not by a patriotic Briton, but a Norwegian.
The Norwegian designer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he intended the flag to represent the union of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in a modern, cool light.
The dragon itself was inspired by a Japanese anime television series.
"It represents shouting "UNION!" and joining together; kicking reason to the curb and doing the impossible; fighting the power, and piercing the heavens," he said
And what impact does he think the new flag would have on foreigners like himself?
"That the UK is awesome. I just hope they don't think it's a pirate flag.
"Actually, if this design is rejected as a common flag perhaps the Crown might file it for future use as a privateer ensign on the high seas or in outer space."

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
SEPTEMBER 24, 2013 at 8:15 AM BY DEMOSTHENES -
Various sources are indicating that the next trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will debut in very early October, and that it will be attached to the Warner Bros. film Gravity.
A first-time source of unconfirmed reliability tells TheOneRing.net that “Hobbit fans would be inclined to see Gravity.”
This correlates with the musings of some of TORn’s staffers, and a number of TORn messageboarders who have pointed out that Gravity is the last Warner Bros. movie to open in cinemas before The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug comes out on December 13. And, unsurprisingly, Hobbit trailers have a history of being attached to WB films. The trail of logic strongly suggests that Gravity is the prime candidate for the next DOS trailer.
In addition (and in support of this), our friends at Henneth-Annun.ru tell us that a reliable source within the Russian distributors of the film tells them that:
The new trailer for “The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug” will premiere at the very beginning of October. The trailer is labeled “Trailer #3″ (with #2 being an abridged version of Trailer #1). The release will most likely happen simultaneously throughout the world. However, not every country will get a dubbed version immediately; the Russian version, for example, will be first released in English with subtitles.
The Trailer #3 is entirely new and not a re-edit of the previous trailer (although it shares some shots). The editing is finished; right now it is undergoing color correction and effects work.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
That reminds me, we Fjordians have a new flagg as well. Comedian and satirist Are Kalvø ( ) set out to rewrite the Constitution with the help of the people. Of course, we probably needed a new flag as well. So people made suggestions and voted.
Here's Are and the flag.

oh my god.. really? but i like our flag, it's like the danish just crossed out.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
I have to say most flags kinda suck from a design standpoint, the British flag being one of the rare exceptions. Now that we can make anything we damn please why not revamp all the flags so they are at least somewhat badass? The Mexican flag with an eagle holding a snake is a nice example, and the fact that they did it when making designs like that was hard shows there's no excuse for anyone now. I'd like to see some tie-dye inspired west african and caribbean flags, etc.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
Nah the Saltire is the best! As you can get it appearing in summer skies just when two jet trails cross.
Nothing better than having a flag that makes regular appearances in the sky

That is cool. But Norc, as far as I know (and correct me if wrong) the Norwegian flag does not have a moose; and without the moose you've got jack shit.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
Im not a fan of laughter tracks myself.
But in fairness to Big Bang it is I think filmed in front of a live audience so its not a laughter track.
Its cued laughter in response to someone holding up a big sign with the instruction 'laugh' written on it, which is obviously better!

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
Though I haven't been to a sit-com filming I have been to a few late-night shows, and John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. They always have a standup comedian warming up the audience so the laughs come easier. They have applause signs, but no laugh signs. They train the audience how to make enough noise when the applause sign goes on.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [2] [SPOILERS]
Can I just say...in the three or four weeks since I joined the forum I have participated in the following conversations:
Haary Potter
Cheese
Doctor Who
Scottish Independance
Cheese Again
And now The Big Bang Theory...so much for discussing The Hobbit.
Then again...I try NOT to think about it.
Anyway Big Bang Theory Rocks, can't wait for Season 7 (even if I can see it getting a little stale this seasons-they moved the characters along from geeks to cool guys with gals too quickly IMO) hoping to see more of Stuart and Zac this season.
The closest I've been to a sit com recording is watching The Paul O Grady chat show (google it) being recorded in the BBC Televesion center...hardly the same but equally hillarious...I never knew OAP's could be so coarse. Judging by recent British sit com's I think I'd rather not see anything being recorded...
