I think Total Recall was the first Colin Farrell movie I'd seen, so I suppose my judgement of him was unfair, but that was a really awful movie. Laughing But I thought he did a really good job in In Bruges so I have nothing against him now. I'd like to see Seven Psychopaths sometime too, though I've head that it doesn't quite live up to In Bruges.

By the by, has anyone seen The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)?
I've been curious to ever since it was first recommended to me (I think by Ringdrotten here), and I've really enjoyed what little of the score I've listened to online. Smile

I don't get in to the crabbitness unless I am retrospectively talking about them and directly comparing to the book. PJ had the luxury of introducing me to middle earth before Tolkien did.

Then let me introduce to a PJ version thats not so distant from the book as the versions you have so far seen- view them like another special edition Nod

RIP Blockbuster Video. I started using them after Hollywood Video (which was closer to my house) moved out of the neighborhood. I miss video stores, but at the same time, they bear part of the responsibility through their own incompetence. I don't mind digital video or anything, but I'm not particularly optimistic about the future of Netflix since content providers and cable companies alike are after its blood. I suspect streaming services will continue to fragment in the future.

At least I can still visit that Video Americain place that Halfwise mentioned. Smile

Blockbuster already moved out of my neighborhood about two years ago, which really kind of upset me because I'd started going there more often than I ever had just a few months before. It's weird. The two video shops that I used to go to as a kid (which were both big chains, since I'm not old enough to remember indie video stores being plentiful) are now a Japanese restaurant and a martial arts studio. I always feel a twinge of nostalgia when I go past either of them.

I miss being able to browse the shelves and read the backs of DVDs for movies I knew absolutely nothing about and decide what to get. I know that Netflix and Amazon have similar systems, but I dunno. It doesn't feel the same.

I agree about losing Blockbuster. I've hated their late-fee policy for years, but it seemed to get better towards the end. Having just Netflix through-the-mail movie delivery is ok, but even their inventory is lacking here and there.
There are still some small independent rental places in the county, but most of them are a good 30 miles away.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

I think there is still a small blockbuster store in my area. Used to be 2 very large stores when I was young. Plus a lot of independent ones too. Used to be the Saturday night treat.. go an rent a movie or two and get the Coke and bag of popcorn deal with it. Always found it very exciting going to choose a film.

I don't think I would ever have tried a lot of films had it not been for those nights. I wouldn't trawl through any sites now to rent a movie and I would never buy a film I know nothing about.

..........

Nostalgia moment.

I'd actually sort of forgotten that Netflix even does the mail-rental thing anymore.  My dad got a Netflix account back in their early days and we watched a ton of stuff that way, but he cancelled his account years ago and I only have the streaming version myself. Shrugging

I do wonder why the big film companies don't just have their own sites these days. I.e. you download directly from Disney or Paramount or Universal rather than having the 'middle men.' I think that would cause major problems with the likes of netflix etc as well as smaller film companies trying to distribute their work..... but the biggies could get a bigger mark up while probably saving the end consumer money.

I think there are some TV companies trying to set up systems like that, although I'm not thrilled because that's going to mean more monthly fees if you want to watch TV stuff as it gets split up by channel, rather than one or two fees to Netflix/Hulu.

As far as movies go, the studios seem happy to let iTunes and Amazon sell and rent digital copies of the movies. You pay individually there though. Netflix streaming you don't, but the result is that Netflix's selection is limited and movies get taken out and replaced in their library on a regular basis.

Thanks for sharing!
And here I thought that blood-stained gif you had of Cumberbatch was from Season 3 of Sherlock.
It was rather confusing plot-wise, but I enjoyed seeing Benedict work his fight moves some more (nice groin kick there, haha). Pretty violent short film, and dark too.

And, well, cyka, xaxaxa. Laughing
