I much prefer the Victorian opulence of the Palm Court, its like going back in time, I just imagine characters from The Age of Innocence to be sitting there taking high tea. I am glad they haven't modernised it. I do appreciate the sophistication of the Carlisle, but its not really me, because I would feel too scruffy and not chic enough. The Palm Court would just look at me like an indulgent aristocratic uncle and allow me to admire it with my mouth open in awe.

{{ As my ole Paw used to say to me, 'son if it wasn't for the DNA test proving it Id not believe...' sorry wrong one  Mad  I meant, "Son, if doesn't have straw on the floor its not a pub and you can be sure of one thing, the drink will cost you half a years mortage be colourful and sticky, and come in a tiny glass that maily consists of minatuare umbrellas, ice and inexplicabley bits of fruit impaled on sticks. What you will be lucky to find is the actual drink you just ransomed yourself for. Always look for straw lad, the mugs might not be clean and it might taste like your bathwater you share with the pigs, but they will be big, full and cheap.' Words to live by. Nod }}

pale straw and bustles don't mix. All the creatures living in the straw try to climb into the bustle for a kip, and then wake up and start biting.

We don't have anyplace that still uses straw, but some use sawdust. Most of these places are faking it, but a couple go back to the 19th century. I haven't been back to McSorley's for a while; goes back to the Civil War.

Yeah, they feed you strawberry shortcake so you don't notice the jab, and you get home to find a new kitten has been delivered to help pull you through any side effects. Nod

I've always enjoyed Chris Rock, but something about the way he interacts with the screen during a Zoom type interview makes him friggin' adorable. Don't know if the non-yanks can see this.

Worth watching for the bit where they are both doing peacock calls.

I never had enough interest in Sophia Vergara to see her in an interview, but her schtick is very unique. A sort of world-weary Columbian Goldie Hawn.

Feeling very nostalgic today so went on a trip round Scarborough with Google street map. I wont be going back now for more than two years I reckon. Because I cant go back this year because of Delta and who knows what will happen next year. No  it really sucks, I miss Scarborough badly sometimes. Shrugging I miss fish and chips and I miss the beach. just everyhing. Sad

You really have to go into street view to get a sense of it, don't you? The bigger cities have enough aircraft flyovers to get a nice 3D view just sailing over it, but for small towns you have to do the street view and photographs, since most of the street view images blow.

I've only known Scarborough from the song, never imagined it was a beach town. Shocked I suppose finding an acre of land between the salt water and the sea strand should have tipped me off. Embarassed Why doesn't the song mention fish and chips instead of herbal greenery?

Scarborough has everything I like about beach towns, it has the oldy worldy fishing village bit, it has a Mediaeval castle on the hill, it has faded Victorian splendour, it has two funicular railways, it has lovely garden walks with spectacular views, it has a beach which has firm golden sand and is easy to walk on, it has fish and chips, its amazeballs. That fox is behaving like a cat. Sort of nonchalant, not really interacting, trying to hide the fact that he's hanging around because he's actually interested.

Just finished reading a list of tweets about marriage.  Some of my favorites:

"Guys, I need your help.  In the middle of an argument with my wife, she said I'm right.  What the hell do I do next?"

"I'm the kind of wife who will help my husband look for his missing chocolate that I ate."

"I thought I was mad at my wife for eating the last piece of cheesecake, but realize I wasn't because she said so."

"All I'm saying is it's a good thing my husband never ordered soup while we were dating 'cause his soup slurping ass would be sooo single right now."

Its been a great week for the protection of children from permanent harm. They are finally closing the Tavistock Frankenstein clinic. The Cass report found it 'unsafe and unscientific' to put it mildly. Thousands of kids will hopefully be referred to therapists who will take into account autism and depression as a first resort, not chemical castration and mutilation. Result.

So I got diagnosed with PTSD and put on anti-depressants. Like you do. Paxil to be precise. Happy days, or it might be after the drugs kick in.

PTSD?  From being banned from TORN and the Guardian? Or from arguing with Petty?
