Re: Not so crabbit now! [2]
Some kind soul has employed me ! (no really, stop laughing) after far too long, and no luck at all and abysmal employment prospects round here I have a job again!
Back to care work, but at least I know what I'm doing there and I like the look of the place, the way they have it organised and if the promise of good prospects for advancement and SVQ's holds true then things are finally looking up again (and my timing couldn't be better as one of the town biggest building firms just suddenly announced its bankrupt- couple hundred guys turned up for work to be told to go home and haven't been paid for last two months work- I consider myself very fortunate therefore to get out the local unemployment scene as that job market is about to get very crowded indeed and its was already standing room only).
I start tomorrow morning at 6.30am!

Re: Not so crabbit now! [2]
Thanks Figg. Cheers Dave.
Im a bit worried about the 6.30 bit myself, that's usually when I'm staggering home from the Duck 'n' Muck and passing Dave's fields with a hefty bladder. Plus its a 40 minute walk there (probably in the rain what with it being summer and all ) longer if I'm swaying- so I reckon that's about a 5am waking time!

Congratulations Petty! I'm glad you're in a country which provides enough of a safety net to keep you from going bonkers from anxiety during a job search.
So set the alarm cat. The benefits of an early start is happy hour comes a bit closer to bed time...if Scotland has the concept of happy hour. Does it?

Sadly that's no longer true under the Tories- frankly its been constant stress with no idea if you are getting your money payment to payment, consistent pointless meetings, courses ect which serve no purpose- I went to three different 'job presentations' in a row where companies come in to talk about their business and what they have available- but none of them were actually hiring at that time.
I got sanctioned 2 times- sanctions are a tory idea- fail to make an appointment, even turn up a few minutes late, you get sanctioned- 14 weeks no money. Often, as happened to me on both occasions it was an error, the last time it was for failing to attend a meeting they had cancelled.
Problem is it takes 2-4 weeks to fix, time when you still get no money, and often you don't get any warning.
When I got sanctioned the last time they signed me off the benefit entirely for failure to attend, I didn't find out about it until a week later when I had to go in for an appointment and they told me I was no longer registered for benefits.
And while it all gets sorted you rely on charity food banks and try not to kill yourself from humiliation. Its knocked me pretty damn low a few times.
Suicides among recipients of benefits is up notably, any letter from social security is filled with tension and fear that your money has been stopped, every appointment and every interview seems to be trap laden to give them an excuse to sanction you.
Its not good at all.

Re: Not so crabbit now! [2]
I feel you bro' ! My money has been stopped from going into my bank account 5 times without warning. I have direct debits to pay on set days. Phone up Benefits & they say its a "computer error " ( my arse it is ! ) Youre never told before hand when this whim happens. Ive been twice myself to the food Banks because of Benefit glitches. And, also, I didnt get the full weeks allowance while they sort my claim out even tho all times its been their fault. I dont know how much money Ive been diddled out of ? but I didnt get it back. Im also half terrified when I get brown envelopes thru the post, its always something bad, never, ever good news ! AND they come at weekends when Benefits ( or anyone to help ) are not there so, you go all weekend worrying your guts out & are frantic monday morning when you phone up Benefits to find out whats going on & all you get is the Engaged tone where 50,000 other people are doing the same cuz theyve been shat on also !

Great news, Petty, happy to hear it! And waking up 5am thinking "shit, work again" is better than waking up at 1pm and thinking "shit, why bother?"
