4th of July
Happy Independence Day to our American hobbit lads and lasses.
Have a fun day! Eat hot dogs, drink root beer, watch fireworks!

Re: 4th of July
Glad to see this thread was made by someone! If you're looking for an extra dose of AMERICA in your day, there's plenty of that still to be found in the OP of last year's thread.

I notice the anti-American tyrants who run YouTube have taken down the song in that post, however, but you can still listen to it here.

Re: 4th of July
I was out all day celebrating the Fourth. Actually, I was celebrating it last night too, because my dad's family decided to have a get-together a day early so that no one would have to go to work the next day and instead could sleep off their hangovers. We set off a bunch of fireworks of doubtful legality, which was a blast. No really, my brother loaded one of the "mortar" fireworks into the tube upside down and it exploded; fortunately everyone was fine. Then some people down the street started cheering (which we could hear) and setting off even larger (and presumably more illegal) fireworks!
Today I drove up to Pennsylvania with my mom and my brother and we spent all day at a pool party at a friend of the family's house. They live fairly far out in the sticks but that was great since they had a big yard and a big in-ground swimming pool. There was also a raft but I think we tore it by the end of the day because too many people tried to climb on it at once on too many occasions. We also had food off the grill and played frisbee. The only real downside was that I got really badly sunburnt by the end.
So anyway, a great Independence Day for me, helped along by cakes with flag icing and jello cast in a mold the shape of the continental US. As an added bonus, on the drive home we passed a ton of different towns and cities near the highway that were setting off fireworks, which was a really neat experience.

Re: 4th of July
Unfortunately the cake is all gone now. :PIt was really good though. It was "banana cake", which I'd never heard of before, but is very similar to banana bread.
The fireworks explosion was definitely startling but it wasn't too bad. I was up on the deck rather than standing near to the launch site, though.
