Happy July 4th Guys! Thanks for Star Trek, Firefly, Family Guy, the Simpsons, Married with Children, ridiculous breakfast cereals and against all the odds and expectations not destroying the world yet in a nuclear holocoust.
I miss the American hamburgers at the big party in the town stadium on JUly 4th, ours just don't taste the same, so have one or four for me.
I'll be raising a class to the Americans- our wayward but much loved cousins across the sea.
Here's something from my youth, used to see this everywhere round here once upon a time, American sailors often got it tattoed. So if you ever see someone with it you know they served their country over here (and know a thing about buckie too).

Ah, but you see we're buying them from the Indians so it really doesn't get more American than that!

We just finished shooting a whole lot of mortar rounds into the sky, and hundreds of neighbors and tourists on the beach are doing the same. One exploded right over our heads as I was putting my horse away earlier, almost landinig him on top of me. The shelling will probably continue till an hour before dawn. There will be no peace tonight!

Scotland gave them cowboys, whatever are you talking about? But then again we have little Texas in Alberta and that it the city of Calgary, a Scottish name and oh yes the Calgary Stampede and oh now i think of it we have Scotsman Hill there too. When I lived there during Stampede week you could ride your horse right into any bank or square dance in the street. All my fellow conference call operators would simply join in and tell our employer that we could not get through the streets, the buses I mean , they did not care. In our country we celebrate Canada Day on July 1 and then celebrate July 4th and we all know Oh say can you see ...off by heart and Oh beautiful for spacious skies... but no Americans know our Oh Canada, and in the movie Stewart Little his teacher said there was another country above theirs called Canada but it wasn't discussed because Canadians want to be alone. "
It's true and it made me smile. I hope your day was all you ever hoped for. I will always love America because she allowed the broken and fleeing and eve those who mock and belittle her to come into her gates and start a new life. That is really something.

Back in the dark ages when all television used to go off the air at night, our US stations would sign off in the wee small hours with trailers of "bombs bursting in air" before going to test pattern and static snow.

CBC on the other hand used to sign off and on the air with a beautiful 1 minute film of little children standing on a hillside, half of them in red rain slickers and half in white rain slickers in the shape of a giant red maple leaf, singing "O Can-ada!" with alternate verses in English and French.

How can a person not love such a people? I hope that trailer is still out there somewhere.
