Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
there is a push to the right because of general perceived or real worries that the Gvt has been emasculated and lacks the balls to tackle difficult and thorny questions such as asylum for known criminals/terrorists/hate mongers. These people stir up trouble within the ethnic community with their rhetoric and then riots happen. Only in the last 20 or 30 years has there been race riots in britain. There are insular communities on both sides, one of them rejecting the host countries ideals of religion, Language, culture, attitude towards women and with a huge chip on their shoulder. The Gvt has been weak and has seen the right wing rise to power as in France/ Le Penn and other European countries like Austria/ Haider. The fascists are Always bubbling ready to take power, and the british gvt has given then the green light because it is weak. The law is only fair if it protects the innocent from harm and that includes deporting hate merchants from England.

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
May I say...Theres a hell of a lot of immigrants that DO NOT speak even a smattering of English. There are courses set up at Language schools/Colleges to help these people. How many forms state that there is a copy of said form in the immigrants native language ?? Benefit forms have a WHOLE page of listed languages, where once there were only one or two languages listed. You can now have an interpreter also. Theres a saying "when in Rome,do as Rome", Well, Ive been abroad & I RESPECTED the country I visited. If I had to wear a head scarf to visit a church, I did! etc. Sadly a lot of trouble urupts by very clever extremists knowing full well that they can prey on vunerable people via RELIGION. You can get entry to a heaven of your religion IF you do as that particular God has promised you will recieve as a reward. What WE as a nation has to decide, according to our religion & values etc, is, how far we except things & what we do with this situation. What is to be tolerated ? "WE" have to take into consideration is MILLIONS of people living a decent, quiet, UNVIOLENT life ?? how do "we" protect them & their families & life style ??

And to think there are people out there telling me to give up alcohol and coffee! What would be left to hydrate me if I give up water? Bloody Greenies and their talk of tainted freshwater mountain streams and all that! It's a bloodywell Lefty conspiracy to poison us all! No wonder I've been lurching to the Right lately --- I thought it was due to getting older and a dodgy knee!

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
Interesting interview with Denis Healey, former Chancellor of the Exchequer in the mid to late 1970's.
During his time at the Treasury the Barnett Formula (by which it is decided how much money Scotland is allocated- and which every since its inception has perpetuated the belief the Scots get more out than they put in) and the first devolution referendum (which was lost) took place.
'(he) is also, typically, pragmatic in his view that if Scots want independence then he sees no good reason why they should not get it.
He says the rest of the UK has more to lose if that were to happen.
“I think we did underplay the value of the oil to the country because of the threat of nationalism but that was mainly down to Thatcher.
We didn’t actually see the rewards from oil in my period in office because we were investing in the infrastructure rather than getting the returns and really, Thatcher wouldn’t have been able to carry out any of her policies without that additional 5 per cent on GDP from oil. Incredible good luck she had from that.”
“It’s true that we should have invested the money in things we needed in Britain and I had thought about an oil fund, like in Norway but it wasn’t my responsibility by then.”
"I think they [Westminster politicians] are concerned about Scotland taking the oil, I think they are worried stiff about it.
I think we would suffer enormously if the income from Scottish oil stopped but if the Scots want it [independence] they should have it and we would just need to adjust but I would think Scotland could survive perfectly well, economically, if it was independent. Yes, I would think so… with the oil.”
I ask Healey what he thinks about claims that Scotland is subsidised by the rest of the UK.
He says Scotland “pays its fair share” and that “these myths” are simply perpetuated by those that oppose independence.
On Scotland keeping the pound, he says Scotland would gain but adds that so “would the rest of us” and he doesn’t see why Westminster could say the Scots couldn’t have it.
“Would Scotland being independent from the UK upset me? No, not really, why would it upset me, it’s a very natural desire."

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
This is First Ministers Questions from the Scottish Parliament- I put it up to highlight a problem with the Scottish Parliament.
All democracies need strong oppositions to hold the government to acount - Scotland doesnt have one.
We have the Labour leader, Johann Lamont-who has a face not even the most crabbit could love, she looks like she is licking piss of a stinging nettle- her main problem, and her parties, is she is opposed the SNP and thats it- doesnt matter what on, doesnt matter the circumstances or anything else- she just objects for the sake of it on political grounds. And she never listens to the response and alters her line of questioning accordingly- she just keeps on her piont, even if its been clearly shot down. And it does her no favours.
And the Scottish Tory party, led by Ruth Davidson, who always seem to me like a frustrated stand up comedian rather than a politician- is even worse at holding the government to account.
Week after week Salmond mops the floor with the two of them-

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
An interesting letter written by Robert the Bruce, King of Scots to Edward, King of England just before the Battle of Bannockburn (which Bruce won and in doing so resetablished Scottish soverienty) has been discovered-
To the most serene prince the lord Edward by God's grace illustrious king of England, (from) Robert by the same grace king of Scots.
Our humbleness has led us, now and at other times, to beseech your highness more devoutly so that, having God and public decency in sight, you would take pains to cease from our persecution and the disturbance of the people of our kingdom in order that devastation and the spilling of a neighbour's blood may henceforth stop.
Prof Dauvit Broun, who made the discovery, said: "The letter reveals a couple of things. Firstly, Bruce's tone is extremely conciliatory. He seems to be offering to do anything possible to establish peace. However, he is nonetheless plainly addressing Edward as one king to another.
"There is no doubt that the bottom line here is that Edward should recognise Robert as king of the Scots, and the Scots as separate from the English."
He added: "The writing of this letter should be seen as a bold move by Bruce who had perhaps recognised that the tables were turning and he could stand his ground in the face of an advancing
English army and open negotiations with the king."

I need to go to more art shows-
ART chiefs were slammed after students staged an X-rated show — including a
home-made bluemovie.
Ana Hine, 22, shot the explicit video of herself and even sold a series of kinky nude prints and racy magazines.
The barmy exhibits were part of the degree show at Dundee University’s Duncan of Jordanstone Art College. The artist — awarded a first class degree — also flogged home-made porn mags for £30 and bondage shots for £15.
Ana, from Dundee, said: “The reaction has been quite positive. A lot of women thanked me.”

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
You may remember that I posted what happened when UKIP leader Farage came to Edinburgh and had to be led away for his own protection?
Well today he is in the Scottish Sun (and worth remembering at the last election UKIP polled in Scotland just under 1% of the vote)
On Salmond- "he didn’t like me coming up. I rattled him.”
On Green energy (now Scotlands biggest expanding export market and producer of 33% of all our power)-Mr Farage also shot down the First Minister’s claim last week that Scotland
would have been £8billion better off if it had been independent five years ago as “Jackanory economics, Of all the things I’ve seen in my business and political life, wind energy is the biggest scam. How an intelligent, educated man like Salmond can come out with all this gobbledygook is quite beyond me.”
(He seems unaware that wind is only a small part of it with wave and Hydro leading the way.)
On devolution (UKIP positon until the Edinburgh visit had been that powers should be moved back to Westminister)-
“My party got devolution wrong. Our position never worked and was frankly insulting. So I’m doing a complete U-turn. I completely accept now the validity of the Scottish Parliament.
After all, the Scots have always had their own legal and education systems anyway."
Im guessing someone took him aside after last time and pointed that last bit out to him, forcing this complete and utter u-turn.

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
I get that no one respects a flip-flopping politician, but at the same time, I feel like politics would be a better thing if more politicians were willing to admit when they were wrong.
That said, you're most likely right about this case, especially given Farage's previous comments about Scotland.

Re: FREEDOM!!!! [2]
Scotland has attracted its highest level of foreign investment for 15 years, according to an annual survey.
Ernst and Young said the number of projects involving foreign direct investment (FDI) rose by 49% last year.
This compared to a 3% rise in projects coming in to the UK as a whole.
It found Scotland increased its market share of all UK FDI projects by almost 3.5%, to 10.9%.
Ernst and Young said the figures showed Scotland continued "to punch above its weight" in an increasingly competitive global market.
The United States remained the largest source of FDI for the Scottish economy, accounting for 41% of all investment projects into the country.
"Only a large, one-off automotive project in the north west of England prevented Scotland retaining its position as the UK's top FDI job
creator for the third year running."The report also argued the current debate surrounding Scotland's constitutional future was having "little or no effect" on levels of FDI.It said: "There's certainly no sign of investors being deterred from coming to Scotland; if anything, the reverse appears to be true." - BBC
So much for the Unionist argument that a referendum creates uncertainty in the markets and that just having one would cost us investment and jobs.
