Have been reading a little more of Josephus (Against Apion) and he's not happy' that Manetho (the Egyptian Scribe) in his Religious works makes up negative stories about the Jews while he (Josephus) applauds the patent truthfulness inherent in the Religious stories the Jews made up. Josephus himself was accused of being a traitor and a liar during (and after), his life time. Go figure!

Anyhows, where's Petty? I hope he's at least been dreaming up his own answers.

State of play. I think both the Plagues and the Exodus itself really happened, but they were separateed by many years -- maybe 80 years (my hope!)*, 100-110 years (according to the current view of most Egyptologists) that is, the length of the Hyksos Dynasty - or even lots more years, if we see the Asiatics (Israelites?) coming into Egypt around 430 years before Moses in the Biblical scheme (or Ahmose: Orwellian scheme).

I think Thera is recorded in a number of ancient records.

Theogeny, Chinese Writings, Admonitions of Ipuwer, The Bible, and Josephus (via Manetho). These come to mind immediately.

Plato (and others) report the Legend of Atlantis. Yes. Thera was where that came from too, methinks = 1628BCE. A time of Great Tribulation around the Great Green Sea. Local Legends sprung up depending on where you came from. Minioan Civilization severely knocked about. The Rise of the Mycenaen semi-barbarians.

How I see it is, the Great Green Sea, the Levant coasts and Northern Africa (Egypt included of course) were most severely affected by the dust, storms and tsunamis that occurred in that blast.

(You must try to think of Petty's buckie farts multiplied anything up to a dozen times to even begin to understand the magnitude of the disaster! )
