OMG. There's got to be some Afghan warlord with an off-kilter sense of humor who makes the offer. That would be just spiffy. Better yet if the Iraqi government makes the offer with as straight faces as they can manage. I so hope they do.

No difference at all that I can see. The sun and moon seem to be going up and down the same as always. There might be slightly less rain since the shutdown, but that could just be a coincidence.

A lot of people I know are out of work for the time being, but that's because I live like 40 miles from DC so the federal government is a major employer here. Other than that it hasn't been substantially different yet.

And we still have functioning state and local governments (the benefits of federalism Very Happy

).

It's kind of funny: these government employees can get chastised for even trying to do some work on their furlough time. Not allowed to check or reply to emails, etc. Things they used to do during vacation that would impress the boss are now officially grounds for a tongue lashing.
