Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I am very curious what the Bree overlords said, I cant believe they actually replied. I think I am more curious to know who they are.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
They just said that the site had been fixed and would resume coverage soon. They also thanked me for "trusting the page", presumably because I had gone out of my way to be polite and respectful in my original message. I also deliberately didn't mention the forum.
No idea who they are though, it was signed "hobbit movie admin".

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
The whole site went offline for about four days. It appears to have been a billing problem; likely someone forgot to pay the web host or maybe there was a technical error.Norc wrote:what happened at bree? i didn't pay attention..

I was polite. at first. But I did mention the forum.

Nothing worse than a billing problem then, no real danger after all How are we doing by the way? We got enough on our account for another year (whenever the renewal date is)?

Well I also didn't send any follow-up messages pestering them to reply.Mrs Figg wrote: I was polite. at first. But I did mention the forum.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
We're doing good, largely thanks to you. Forumotion keeps offering to pay for the domain name for us since we're one of the most active movie forums they host, so we just have to pay to keep ads off. As it is we should be good for at least another year. I double check the finances page of the admin panel regularly so when the coffers start to run low I'll start another fundraiser. We have really low operating costs though because Forumotion is an all-inclusive forum provider rather than just a web host.Ringdrotten wrote:Nothing worse than a billing problem then, no real danger after all :)How are we doing by the way? Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
It's clear that they don't really care about the forum and I get the sense that they may have been further put-off by receiving angry or demanding messages in the past, though I can't imagine that anyone from the forum would have said such things.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Those extra dollars from me was because I forgot to pay the first year, remember? And an ads-free forum is worth a few extra dollars, and it's quite cool to hear that we get a free ride because we're active

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
what? i live in fjordianland, we pay for everything here... well..almost.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
No, we're part of Forumotion, which takes care of all the technical stuff, while THM pays for their own hosting all the way. We only have to pay for extra bells and whistles like no ads and having our domain name. The forum won't disappear.Norc wrote:oh. ok. that won't happen here right?
In the past I've just posted a link to the donation page and people have given whatever they choose. In the future maybe we'll throw in some incentives, who knows.Norc wrote:thanks to ringo? and they offer to pay for us because we're so active? awesome. so.. we might have a fundraiser some time in the future? how does that work?
No, no one has to pay. Donations to help the site are completely voluntary.Norc wrote:one has to pay to be here? .. is there something i am not doing here?
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
btw. i haven't gotten myself an adult visa-card yet so i can't pay stuff on the internet.. maybe in the future i will donate like.. 50 øre.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Glad I could help clear things up.
Edit: no idea what 50 ore is (is ore like gold in WoW? ) but any contribution is appreciated.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I asked you not to talk about that in public!

{{{ I thought we periodically sold off young hobbit lasses to support the effort. It would be a shame to send young Norc off to scrubbing scuppers on one of them Vogon star destroyers, but whatever it takes, I say. }}}

{{{I'm pretty sure that exact scenario has taken place in the Wholesome Tales, actually. }}}
