We Americans are always chuffed by the egregious use of baked beans in British breakfasts. I mean, it's bad-ass. Not hot or cool. you follow?

I don't think I've ever seen or heard the word "inflammable" before. If you want to say that something is not easily set on fire, then you go with "non-flammable".
I've also never heard anyone use "egregious" in a positive sense. I'm not British so I can't comment on the meaning(s) of "chuffed".

Re: oi brits! non brits! whatever!
I have only ever heard 'chuffed' used in the sense of beng pleased- the only negative way I can think of it being used I have heard is to say something like; "I wasnt very chuffed with that Hobbit film."
Generally people in this part of the UK anyway use flammable for something that can be set on fire and inflammable when they mean it cant.
I would guess both words started with same meaning and as one word- inflammable- but through usage people dropped the in bit but the original word and meaning still clung on in dictonaries.
egregious just depends on context if its meant positive or negatively.

Re: oi brits! non brits! whatever!
hi, i am guessing sicne there are some brits here that they might know more about the english revolusion, Bill of Rights, the civil war etc. etc and all that (church, and so on, parlament all that) since u probably learned about that in like .. kindergarten, so i just wondered if someone might want to share their knowledge with me, I am not gonna quote you or use anything of it, just idk, tell me about it, my history book is a bitt un-detailed and tries to make it simple, when it really just takes away details that makes it easier to grasp, if you know what i mean, and all the articles i find are super complicated and i cant really get the full picture of what, why, how, when and consequenses and shit. I have some knowledge but yeah, idk, if someone might tell me about it like you would telll it.. maybe it'll be a bit more.. comprehensive... if that even is the right word. lol. anyways, idk.. you don't have too ^^

Re: oi brits! non brits! whatever!
okay. this goes out to all english native speakers. what does "to pay for the gossamer seed" mean? i've tried to figure it out, and i need to know, cus i am translating a song lyric into nynorsk and i don't really know if i can find a fitting translation. what is a gossamer seed. Also, norwegians, do you know a phrase that means the same?
Re: oi brits! non brits! whatever!
You know when you are out for a walk in the woods and you get strands of all but invisible spider web blow into your face? Those are gosamer strands- its a single long bit of spider web they use to travel on the breeze- gossamer threads.
As to the phrase 'to pay for the gossamer seed'- it sounds like a poetic whimsy- Ive never heard of it- gossamer doesnt come from a seed (although in some parts I have heard gossamer used to describe the seeds of thistles and other plants like dandilions which travel on the wind- so perhaps it refers to gossamer in that respect, hence seeds?)
