Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
I skipped ahead to the battle because I find Bakshi's film too painful to sit all the way through. Their take on it was pretty good. But god, the battle itself was even worse than I remembered.
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
i like bakshi.... i think lotr should have been a cartoon, althuogh some of it is a bit.. "why?! what? oh.. never mind"
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
Cartoons are great. Tinted live-action footage is not.
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
yes, i agree, i said there were some things that were a bit... yeah.
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
Even the parody version is still closer to Tolkien than PJ's!

I hate roto-scoping. But I find the movie watchable with the dub over it. I love the running jokes (sponsorship from Apple, Sam is an Aborigine, characters trying to find a literal exit form the film, etc.). I think it's really funny.

"From him they learnt many things it were not good for any but the great Valar to know, for being half-comprehended such deep hidden things slay happiness; and besides many of the sayings of Melko were cunning lies or were but partly true, and the Noldoli ceased to sing, and their viols fell silent upon the hill of Kôr, for their hearts grew somewhat older as their lore grew deeper and their desires more swollen, and the books of their wisdom were multiplied as the leaves of the forest."

Why did Dolly Parton enter a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest. Of course she wasn't going to win the dickhead!
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
Some of those are pretty interesting and/or amusing. Though they forgot to mention that the founder of Segway died riding a Segway over a cliff.
And lots of patron saints aren't from the places they were (much later) declared patrons of. St George and St Andrew were both from the Middle East. At least St Patrick lived in Ireland at literally any point in his life.

Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
haha, yeah, some of them are a bit off.. like the telephone. i believe he took patent on it, not invented it.
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More [2]
Wikipedia's article on the invention of the telephone makes for entertaining reading. It appears the first sentence transmitted electronically may have been "the horse doesn't eat cucumber salad" by Johan Reis, though his setup did not have good enough sound reproduction to become commercially viable.

It's not very good, but who actually expects good from The Simpsons these days?
