I imagine you driving your own motor, Mrs Figg... (Must say I love the imagery of the deck-chase btw! Very Happy )

Have to say, I always have this sense of anticipation (and - maybe - pending doom) when you two get on so well together... Laughing

Anyone remeber this? The Tripods- BBC kids show from the early 80's- based on a set of books themselves based on War of the Worlds- except with the idea the aliens won and enslaved the earth using mind controller- its set several generations after the conquest.
I remember being quite perturbed watching this! Apart from Who the BBC dont seem to make stuff like this for kids any more sadly.

Sorry Petty, ever since "Coupling" I have never been able to hear the word 'tripod' without smirking.

Now that was a great TV show.

That would be Moffat Who which has attracted a higher calibre of world famous actors and writers than at any other point in its 50 years history and made the show more successful globally than at any other time?- Yeah total disaster. Rolling Eyes

You never know Eldo- Who was off the air longer than that it came back and went from strength to strength. Rare granted, but it is possible.

Who was basically rebooted when it came back though, wasn't it? My understanding of AD season 4 is that it's supposed to be a continuation of the three seasons that aired on FOX in the mid-2000s. It's possible that they'll turn out something good but I think it's more likely that they'll try too hard to recreate the show as it existed close to a decade ago, with disappointing results.

I could be wrong though.

Who was basically rebooted when it came back though, wasn't it?- Eldo

Thats a contentous question Eldo! Sofa
I would say not- there is no break in continutity or character between classic and new, it does not replace classic or unwrite anything in it but is a continuation of it.
I certainly would not consider it a reboot in the sense say ST is a reboot, or BSG was a reboot.
If it had come back and Ecccelston was supposed to be the 1st Doctor that would have been a reboot- but he wasn't he was the 9th- and thats just a continuation.
The main difference between Classic and NuWho is a change to the Doctor- by creating the offscreen Time-War in the missing years they made the Doctor the last of his race rather than just rogue from his race. But again this is more a continuation of the original as it does not alter any of the Classic stories and is just part ofthe 50 year long unfolding story.

I was just reading a Who related piece about when the show started- focusing on what the tv schedules in the UK were like at this time and came across this-

'The Pilkington Committee report on broadcasting was published in June 1962 at a cost of £45,450. Among a number of things, the inquiry had criticised ITV's "triviality" and backed T S Eliot's evidence statement to the committee that "Those who aim to give the public what the public wants begin by underestimating the public taste; they end by debauching it".

As true now as it was then in my view, and a charge which could be equally laid at the door of PJ's LotR's.
