Sherlock turned into a Doctor Who-dunnit after the TARDIS was spotted in The Hounds Of Baskerville.
Bosses were baffled how the famous blue police box seemed to appear in the BBC1 hit, circled below.

Re: Television programmes
I did not, but it certainly does appear to be the TARDIS! Maybe Steven Moffat is trying to subliminally influence me to give in and watch Who, just like you.
Re: Television programmes
I was being subliminal! I had no idea! Perhaps then I should be more direct!

That came out wrong, but we could always use to see what the REAL Petty thinks. Don't hold back!
Re: Television programmes
Today's the day that the second series of Sherlock comes to a hopefully glorious conclusion. I don't know when I'll be able to catch the episode as that partially depends on how quickly it appears online, so I'm going to steer clear of this thread and other Sherlock-related sites until I have. Hopefully I'll be able to see the episode by Monday the latest. I'll be sure to post my thoughts as soon as I have.
Re: Television programmes
Saw my first 2 episodes of Sherlock yesterday, the one with the homicidal cabbie, and the one with the fake painting, sheer brillance, even though it wasnt in English. I think Martin Freeman is fab.

Re: Television programmes
I'm half way through the first episode of season 2, and watched all of season 1. SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I can definitely picture Cumberbatch as Smaug, his voice and his eyes are perfect!
And of course Martin Freeman is just fantastic too!

Re: Television programmes
Be interestig to see how exactly they are going to use Cumnberbatch in his role as Smaug- given they are motion capturing him- I assume this is mainly for facial things not body- but you never know he is quite lanky- maybe they are going to have him writhing about on the floor too!

Cumberbutch has reptilian eyes, they are too small for his head and slanted. Nice voice though.

Re: Television programmes
BENEDICT Cumberbatch looks set to play Sherlock Holmes on the big screen – placing him in direct competition with rival star Robert Downey Jr, who also plays the famous detective on film.
Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Holmes in the BBC1 series has won him critical praise and the show’s makers now want to create a movie version featuring the 35-year-old actor and his sidekick Doctor Watson, played by Martin Freeman, 40.
“Due to Benedict and Martin’s film schedules they’ve only been able to make three television episodes for the latest series and it’s felt a film version is the best way forward,” says an insider. “It’s felt there’s no reason two film versions can’t exist at the same time.”- Daily Epress

Re: Television programmes
Good news and bad news. Good news is that although it took a while I managed to find a copy of the episode and watch it on the same day it was broadcast. The bad news is that it's been half an hour and I still feel like I'm in shock, so I think it's going to require a bit of time to sink in. And probably a couple of repeat viewings. And while the ending
- Spoiler:
- isn't quite as bad a cliff-hanger as series one, it's still a bit frustrating since I'm not sure how Sherlock survived. Then again, the ending was emotionally powerful on other levels so I can't say I'm disappointed in it. But I don't want to have to wait 18 months or longer for the next series.

I find this doubtful. Both co-creators have already said that there will be a third series and it was in fact commissioned at the same time as the second series. So I suspect that Cumberbatch and Freeman will be preoccupied with that on top of The Hobbit and their various other roles. The idea of a feature film with them, while intriguing, sounds to me like baseless tabloid speculation of the sort that had people believing that David Tennant would play Bilbo Baggins. Besides, each episode of Sherlock is practically a feature-length film in and of itself.
Re: Television programmes
My guess as to how he did it Eldo-
- Spoiler:
- Molly! Thats all I'm saying! (Mainly cause I aint 100% sure how she faked it but its her work alright- the scene where he goes to see her right before and tells her he always trusted her- my money is on Molly rigged it-somehow. Of course if my track record of second guessing Moffat productions is anything to go by thats completely wrong!)

- Spoiler:
- There's some kind of swap on the ground I think, knocking John over was clearly crucial! Clearly Sherlock off the building. How to survive the fall? Not sure! But yeah Molly! Love the fact that to set it up he truely had to not care what was written about him in the papers!

For everyone interested in astronomy watch Stargazing live on BBC 2 8.30pm with Brian Cox well worth a watch, hopefully! Hasn't actually started yet! And yeah, Sherlock was awesome. It was.

Re: Television programmes
About the ending:
While there are some holes in this theory (how could it have been coordinated in such a short time?), I think it's one of the more plausible ones. However, it feels too simple and too easy from the team who used the Bee Gees to get out of the series 1 cliffhanger. I suspect that whatever the explanation is, it will be totally out of left field and no one will have guessed it.
- Spoiler:
- I rewatched most of the last episode and I think it is clear that Sherlock was on the roof of the building and that he jumped. However, we cut from seeing Sherlock falling to seeing a body (face out of frame) hitting the ground. Someone on the Guardian's website also pointed out that there was a truck full of garbage bags right next to where the body on the ground hit. Then Molly could have dumped another body (perhaps Moriarty's) and it hit the ground. John had been concussed by a member of the Homeless Network riding the bicycle and the fake body was whisked away too fast. In the meantime, the bag truck drove off (it's not present after John reaches the body).

Re: Television programmes
Petty mentioned the BBC iPlayer stats in the Dr Who thread which got me interested. I did some reading and it turns out that 2 January was iPlayer's busiest day ever, led by Sherlock, which broke the single-day iPlayer viewing record with over 623,000 views in the 24-hour period. That was the day after series 2 began.

Re: Television programmes
Just watched the Hound of Baskerville at midnight last night, which was a pretty bad idea becasue I was terrifyed a giant dog was going to break into my house! IT WAS SO FREAKY!!!!!!!!!! but SOOOOO amazing!!!! I think that's the best TV episode I've seen ever! (though I've been told that the next episode is even better and will make me cry?) I plan on watching it tonight, but I have to study for finals first!

Re: Television programmes
CBS in the States has apparently green-lit a pilot for their new series Elementary which is ... an update of Sherlock Holmes set in the present day! Only it's New York City instead of London. What a joke. Apparently they haven't even contacted the creators of Sherlock but are just doing this on their own. When this rumor first began back in September Steven Moffat said:
While I realize Moffat isn't the first person to try to "update" Sherlock Holmes, the timing of this decision with the success of Sherlock just screams greed and opportunism. Not to mention that it will probably be heavily Americanized since the setting is now NYC. Like I said: a joke. Can you tell I'm crabbit?
Dear CBS. A modern day Sherlock Holmes? Where, oh where, did you get THAT idea? We'll be watching!
