that ones great. Thumbs Up I would really like to see images like that on the tv show.

this current season seems very thin on these wide shots of other worlds and it also feels cramped into small claustrophobic spaces like under water or space bases, a lot of the time its on Earth London. I hope for this last two episodes they get off Earth.

Thanks Figg.

I think the cinematography, lighting ect has improved year on year for some time- but its also clear that Who, like everything else publicly funded, has had its budget cut again after last years cut.
If you go back and just look at say series 6 and 7 there are a lot of those big sweeping shots you talk of and I doubt they could budget for an episode like Dinosaurs on a Spaceship in the current climate.

listen there are thousands of people who would do that work for free if they got their name on the credits. there must be thousands of people with the right kit at home who could turn in decent cgi. surely? plus they must be raking in cash from Dr Who viewed from other countries.

You cant just farm it out- BBC uses unemployed as free labour! I can see the Daily Mail headlines already.
Also there all sorts of technical reasons why you couldn't- such as the need for a render farm.

'plus they must be raking in cash from Dr Who viewed from other countries.'

They do- its the BBC's top selling program globally. But the money doesn't come back to the show. It goes into the big BBC pot- Who gets the exact same drama budget as any other top tier BBC drama, but no more, and when the drama budget gets cut, as it has for the last few years, Who gets cut with it- regardless of how much money it makes.

ok but there's no excuse for unimaginative sets, they could make some interesting things with plywood and spit. they seem to have lost the skills found in theatre productions and they seem to be lacking the interesting locations found in Smiths run as well. everything seems to be winding down and grinding to a halt creatively.

'they seem to have lost the skills found in theatre productions and they seem to be lacking the interesting locations found in Smiths run as well. everything seems to be winding down and grinding to a halt creatively.'

I couldn't disagree there more, I think the actual imagination and creativeness this series is exceptionally high, probably more so because they are having to do it with less money than before.

Spoiler:

There are stills there form every episode so far this series. There is not a single episode without great attention to detail in sets and design, costuming, lighting, colouring. Some of the sets are huge. And there is a wide arrange of creativity on show from writing to final product. I don't think the production team have put a foot wrong this series.
