Christopher Lee (Saruman) narrates The Hunting of the Snark
Christopher Lee narrated a film that I directed based on a Lewis Carroll poem called The Hunting of the Snark. You can pre-order a copy of the film for $5 via Kickstarter at the link below (and also see a clip from the movie!) Help me bring this Lewis Carroll classic to the big screen!

Not sure where else to put this, but Christopher Lee has a heavy metal Christmas single and it's pretty amazing.

Gotta love Mr Lee- does what he damns well wants to and quite right too.
I often wonder what sort of a Gandalf he would have been- Tolkien seemed to think he was the man for the job afterall.
He makes such a good Saruman (despite the script) that its hard now to imagine him as Gandalf- I bet his Gandalf though would have kept a bit of crabbit about him.

I think he would have made a great Gandalf, and as you say have had more of that edge to him, though I wonder if at his age he would have been able to handle the stunts and physicality. More power to him if he could have, but during filming of The Hobbit, at least, I recall his age being a concern, which is why they filmed him in London.

Sadly he is too old now- but at the time of LotR's I reckon he could have been up for it more.
I'd have loved to have seen it.
